I think the original poster would be better off using the "Mentally Incompetent" defense!

I'm not exactly sure of the relevance of the link was to the previous comment nor the relevance of your comment to the posting of the link. But I can also say that there are plenty of Canadians that know a lot about US state and federal laws - although I don't profess to be one of them .

On the OP (which was obviously to promote discussion, not necessarily their personal opinion), the idea portrayed in the video is simply not enforcable. It would be very difficult or impossible to pass judgement on whether someone was causing harm or danger to another person. Just b/c nothing happened doesn't mean they are not causing risk of harm. That's a judgement call. With the proper detection equipment, proper training and proper posting of the limit, there is no judgement as to whether a vehicle was travelling at a rate of speed higher than the said limit. Hence the reason the laws look to these facts when passing judgement. The other factors (risk of harm) "may" come into play in the exercise of the officer's discretion.

if the Op's post was to just promote a discussion, he shouldn't have added his comment of "self-rightous replyers".

And I believe states decide what area should be what speed limit because anything over just increases unnecessary danger and potential harm. This way cops can't use their personal beliefs of what is excessive speeding. Speeding is going faster than the posted maximum speed limit.

The post said the guy probably had some tickets. The relevance was the guy did indeed have some tickets. He is the OP in both threads.

Good point - That's fair - I missed that fact and the sentence in this post. But, the reality is the speed limit is the law. That's how it is written in the Ontario traffic act. A YouTube video, while presenting an interesting theory, isn't going to change that. Sorry - that's just the way it is.

As to the comment on the "self-righteous replyers" who were merely individuals offering some insight and experiences, I was not the ticketing officer for this individual so I cannot say he did or did not break the law - nor did I say that in the other thread. This video does present an interesting theory however - one that I myself have often throught about at times (like the officer sitting in an industrial park at 6am Sunday morning )

Be Safe

I in noway meant anything against Canadians with my post ,as I assume that's what your drive at here ,but I'm sorry I'm not going to take advice from someone on traffic laws or any other law for that matter that doesn't live in my state let alone my country. Besides he damn sure doesn't know anything about this law.

I'm not sure what you are saying. I've never argued that the speed limit is not the law. I was just responding to a post that said the guy probably has tickets and indeed he does. Of course the speed limit is the law. The op's assertion that it is not is ridiculous.

Lame thread, and I just read all four pages ....

Ok, let's see if I can do this with a straight face ...

How about this defense ? The U.S. Constitution guarantee's me the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and damn if Happiness isn't quick ! I was just trying to keep up ! It is my Constitutional right to pursuit it, no matter how fast it goes and you can't stop me !!!!!

Good grief, we all know that speeding is illegal, almost everyone does it, not just Camaro owners, but soccer moms in their minivans as well, we all take our chances with the law and getting a ticket, if you don't like it drive the speed limit and quit complaining ( and stay in the right lane, out of the way).

I completely agree - and nor should you take such advice. You make an excellent point.

Yep - agree 100% - the comment of mine you quoted was actually directed at the question posed by the OP'r - not yourself

Right-on Agree with all your points (esp'y the last one ). But when it was shared that 3 tickets had been received at the same location, I immediately thought of that Simpson's episode where Lisa tests to see if Bart is smarter than a mouse (or maybe it was a gerbil - can't remember) by giving him a shock each time he touched a muffin - he just kept doing it . But.... we all make mistakes. It's just how we deal with them that defines us.
