Even though I'm in California I personally think the next fest should be in Texas; that's a reasonable drive from California or Alabama. It would seem that the best solution is to rotate fests between 3 pre-determined locations; one in the west, one in the midwest, one in the east.

It's not likely I will ever attend Indy or any fest in the east; it's too far and too expensive (for me) to get there. I could fly in but I don't want to go to a Camaro fest without my Camaro; for me having my car there with all the others is half the fun. If a fest is held in California it will be too far and too expensive for the eastern half of the U.S. members to attend with the exception of those few who can afford it and are willing to attend. A midwest/Texas fest would have the chance of the biggest attendance because it would increase the likelihood of a greater number from the 2 coasts being able to attend than a fest on either coast would.

Some will not attend no matter where it is unless it's relatively close and convenient which is fine, but not something to plan around for an event of this size.

Since each year we have more and more members on C5, as well as Chevy keeps selling thousands and thousands of Camaros month after month, it becomes more important to settle on which 3 locations are going to be "the 3" used to rotate to each year so the organizers don't have to waste valuable time searching for locations. The planning and logistics is only going to grow as the size of C5 and the Camaro community grows.

People keep saying "Vegas" but it's too expensive and we're too small. We may think we're big but they're used to events bringing in tens of thousands; saying "we may bring in a thousand people!" doesn't mean anything to them. They have banquet rooms that can hold more than that. Anything farther east than Vegas might as well be Texas. Arizona was okay last year but that's so far south it's an ordeal to get to even for many who already live on the west coast.

I think we've finally gotten just big enough that there really aren't that many choices that can host what we want and still be affordable. I would love to go to Laguna Seca but that's going to be way too expensive. I may be biased but I don't think ignoring road course is a great idea; especially with the ZL1, 1LE and very probably a Z/28 coming. Hopefully the organizers will look for "the 3" locations that can accomodate all 3 types of track events.

We know Firebird in Arizona can; I know Auto Club Speedway in Fontana can. I'm not familiar with northern California, Oregon or Washington state tracks but weather has to be considered when offering locations that are subject to lots of rain or blistering heat and thunderstorms. The weather at the Fontana track is pretty darned consistent year-around; too hot in July/August but otherwise 60-80 degrees with very little rain.

I don't know what the best times of year are for Texas or even what tracks are there but I've been to Dallas in the spring and it seemed pretty nice. If there's a Dallas track that can work for us I say let's have the next one in Texas and see how it goes; if it's successful let's start by making that the first of "the 3" and then pick the other 2. We don't want our organizers (and vendors) to get burned out on doing these because everything is a complete roll of the dice each year.

That's another of my 2 cents so now I guess I'm in for 4 cents lol.

obviously you didn't, because then you wouldn't of asked the question, or you weren't that involved at the fest to realize that Pete was there running the Camarocross, or walking amongst us in the parking lot.

When I missed the first Fest, and met up with Doug to loan him my GoPro, I had this huge feeling of jealousy and anger inside that I didn't get to attend. As soon as Doug drove off, I knew I was going to regret not being there. And when the random attendees were posting up their photos here during the event, I was so pissed at myself for not making time to be there that I swore I would never miss an event again. At the very least, for the next several years. I don't know what will be happening in my life year to year to truly plan that far ahead, but I know I will do everything in my power to attend so long as I never have that kind of feeling again.

I've met so many genuine people on this site that it's not just a hobby anymore. I may not have the bankroll to have a top-16 drag car or a track crushing autocross/road course monster, but just being able to attend and watch and live vicariously through those who do is something you can't do anywhere else. The fact that the people who can afford such pieces of artwork are so humble and willing to chat and share stories with those of us who are just happy to have a relatively stock vehicle speaks volumes of the character of this site and its members.

We all love our cars. And for one weekend out of the year we get to hang out with like-minded folks from all walks of life from all corners of the continent to share in that common bond. I've gained some absolutely amazing friendships that, had I never bought my Camaro, I NEVER would have met or socialized with. And it continues to amaze me how easily those friendships were forged over just a car and a forum.

Those friendships are the reason I never want to miss out again.

Now if I could just remember to bring the damn ice...

I drove 1500 miles that particular time which to me is pointless in the matter. Point of the matter is, I'm rooting for everywhere but TX. If it ends up being in TX i'll still make the attempt to make it there since I do not have any deployment obligations at the moment unless that changes. So you can take your facepalm, right back.
Ohhhh Dayum... stepped right off in it...

Ya know what I think is pointless, first slaming Russ and then throwing in that you are associated w/ the military.. Totally pointless.

I also attended C5F2. I did, however, miss out on the first Fest. I had just received my car and did not have enough vacation time accrued to make it out.

But, I will drive to C5F4, C5F5, C5F6, C5F7, et. al. regardless of where they're located.
You missed a fest... no wonder I didn't have as much fun at that one.

Well, it would be a hell of a drive for me (Central NJ) but I might be willing to drive down to Texas for this, if that's where this ends up This will be the first C5Fest with my Camaro, and I would really like to make it. I would've loved to have gone to Indy this year, I just felt like it would be weird saying "Yeah, I don't have one yet...but I'm ordering one in a few weeks!" Oh well. As long as it's not too far out west I'll make an effort to get out there and finally meet some of you guys

Quite sure it will hit Indy again sometime. Hard to deny that location. You'll get another shot. I almost didn't have a car for III either. Got lucky and found one on Autotrader.

Me too!! Thanks Pete for the kind words about us Texans. I agree whole heartedly about what yoy said about the H-Town and San Antonio Camaro Clubs. Both have a fantastic club and I feel like family when I am with them. I have been to all 3 Fests and look forward to the time that it will come to Texas.

Las Vegas was the alternative to Phoenix last year. They weren't exactly the most co-operative folks to deal with. It happens, and its just something we have learned to expect when planning Camaro5 Fest.

i was pretty much joking about vegas. lol i know it's been mentioned multiple times.

and crazy expensive? perhaps for the track, but hotels can be found for VERY cheap. same as food. sure, there are the pricier places, but it's not hard to find a bargain.

I meant for the track. I imagine the track cost is way beyond Camaro5's budget break-even point.

East coast or bust IMO. WAY too many people live over here. I just left TX....overrated!

I KNOW I'm going to get slaughtered for this but has anyone considered a Dual C5 Meet?

One E coast and another for those unwilling or unable to make it to the E coast, maybe TX or CA or wherever decided. This way about 90% of Camaro owners travel costs/needs could be met. Additionally, they could be set up and/or coordinated separately(which is a good thing IMO).

Weather is different regionally and I don't think it's out of the question to consider.
