Just found this on the 2013 GT500

2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 to Have Camaro ZL1–Slapping 600-Plus Horsepower - Future Cars

And now we wait for the rebuttal from Chevrolet.

Only a month after the unveiling of the 550-plus-hp 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, word is leaking out that Ford will substantially advance the muscle-car wars with a 2013 Shelby GT500 making a pants-bursting 600-plus horsepower.

Our well-informed sources say the stratospheric output figure, which could be as high as 620 horses, is the result of boring out the current 5.4-liter V-8 to 5.8 liters and swapping the existing Eaton M112 supercharger for the same firm’s more-efficient and quieter TVS unit. This supercharger, with its four-lobe rotors, is the blower of choice for the Audi S4, Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and, interestingly, the Camaro ZL1.
The 5.4-liter in the current GT500 makes an already pretty absurd 550 hp. The car rips to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 12.4. Based solely on the horsepower increase, we estimate that the 2013 model will drop almost half a second through the quarter, for a 12.0-second run. As it is already traction limited, we don’t see the 0-to-60 number changing much. We do, however, anticipate that it’ll be a straight-up bitch to launch consistently, at least without the addition of a launch-control system. If it isn’t limited to 155 mph, as the current car is, the 2013 GT500 should be capable of topping 190 mph.

Like all 2013 Mustangs, the GT500 will sport a body altered with the goal of looking somewhat less retro and more modern and edgy, according to sources. And, yes, we do take “modern” to imply the addition of LEDs to the head- and taillight assemblies. You won’t see any of the new bodywork in the spy photos here. This powertrain mule caught today in Dearborn wears familiar bodywork (and 2011 Mustang GT headlights) but rides very low over a set of current GT500 Performance package wheels. What won’t change is the basic rear-suspension design. That’s right: This most insanely powerful of Mustangs will keep its live axle. It’ll just be a little, er, livelier.
The new model is, of course, still a long way off. Hell, the 2012 ZL1 that it’s intended to battle won’t go on sale for another 11 or so months. Expect the 2013 GT500 about 10 months after that, leaving you plenty of time to save your dollars. You’re going to need about 60,000 of them to buy one.

If the next SVT Mustang is going to have this 5.8L Ti-VCT Coyote V8 w/ 2.3L TVS and launch control I will definitely be on the order list. I could care less about tire with as I've already fixed that on my 2011. Its so nice to have an automaker that's always surpring the public by giving them things that they've only dreamed about for the past 15 years and keep on one upping themselves like they use to back in the good old days. I cant imagine what they have in store for 2015+, Ive heard rumors of a Ford GT like supercar, and ecoboost v8's.

This came out in December Dan, its a Coyote 351 but internal/external specs haven't been released yet. I think they bored this over some...

This is what were looking at as far as bore and stroke and also another 5.7 option.

5.0L Stock
Bore – 3.63in (92.2mm)
Stroke – 3.65in (92.7mm)
Displacement – 302 cu in, 4.951L

5.7L (using 5.4L’s stroke and 5.0L’s bore)
Bore – 3.63in (92.2mm)
Stroke – 4.165in (105.8mm)
Disp. – 345 cu in, 5.651L

5.8 with a stroke 4.24in (107.7mm).
Bore – 3.63in (92.2mm)
Stroke – 4.24in (107.7mm)
Disp – 351 cu in, 5.752L

The deck height difference from a 5.0 using a 4.6 DH and a 5.0 using a 5.4 DH is about 1.1".. Not really a big deal seeing that is would save about 30lbs, have TiVCT and ready for DI.

Give me that 5.8l coyote wrapped in a boss 302 and call it a boss 351 or mach 1 and I will buy one that day. Unless the ssx is released. Then I might have to do some cross shopping. . .

I wouldn't put much stock into it until the car becomes official and ready for production. Things like gas prices may change what direction the 2013 GT500 goes in a hurry. As for Ford always leading the pony wars, I wouldn't consider that a truth because 93-02 the GM FBody's made Ford look like a bunch of chumps in performance. Even in the final year of the FBody's, they were still faster & overall more performance savvy than the same year GT & Cobra. The problem Chevy has that Ford doesn't is that the Camaro is Chevy's #2 performance car behind the Corvette while the Mustang is all Ford has. Chevy will never let the Camaro get too close to Corvette performance levels. Ford on the other hand can be limitless since there's no performance car above the Mustang for them.

What makes anyone think they know what the ZL1 HP will be? #3 might know, but he never spills the beans.

Yeah, the GT500's are what... $1500 dollars away from consistent low 11's? How much can you get a set of Weld Racing rears and meats to go with them?

Although, there will be people screaming not stock... But it is pretty exciting to see the level at which these two cars go at each other.

Hey Pete, going in tomorrow for the thing we talked about, well epidural first... Wish me luck...

I am puttin' together a build plan for straight line as we speak so I will most likely call you from Pittsburgh or after I get back to Germany. I can't leave parts sit in an APO box or I get briefed..

What the hell is Ford thinking announcing this TWO FULL YEARS ahead of time!?!
And $60,000? Hmmmmm.....

Anyways, this is cool. I hope Chevy can match it, or come close -- but let's face it...Ford's beginning to price themselves out of the market if all of this is true...I DON'T want the ZL1 to go there...

I believe it is only 11 months or so away from being in showrooms. They are already selling 2012's. I admit, I am excited to see this, especially if it is similar in looks to the pic Pill posted. Will be fun cross shopping the two cars.

The OP's article said it was over 20 months away...I don't care to follow Ford's goings-on to know, so I just assumed.
