I have owned a couple of BMWs. The inline six had a great exhaust note. This is close to what I remember, close but mine had massaged motors (imagine that) and sounded better.

Here is the Sonic dressed up for SEMA and the OPTIMA.

I would go lower, but ran out of adjustment in the rear. I took out the spring jack lower seat and lock ring so the coil now sits on the adapter. The rear shock ran out of adjustment two spring changes ago. The front drags across most inclines. I guess that mean it is ready.

The Sonic would be really incredible with Forgelines and RE-11s, but the RE-11s are 180 tread wear and illegal for the OPTIMA. That is how we will be able to compete. The fire breathing high power cars struggle to put power down on 200 tread wear tires. We don't have that problem

So a V8 can sound bad-ass, eh?

Listen to the Henessey ZL1, idling off the trailer, at about the 38 second point...SHIVERS!
Can you say, "Cammed!"?
Can you say, "Lemme GO!"?!

The '86s had an adjustable wastegate that, retrofitted to an '87 and adjusted to whatever gas was available (Cam2, at the time, was "magic" for 21-22 lb), really brought them to life. Mid-12s on 255/50X16 shaved 'n softened Gatorbacks on TA rims were possible with minimal (less than $600 and a few hours) mods. QUICK in the late-'80s for a fully streetable car.

I didn't want a Black GN like almost everyone else was getting, so I ordered a Turbo T-Type Regal Custom in Silver/Grey Buckets, added the WF6 wide mouldings package and, according to compnine.com, got a one-of-30 "4GJ47-LC2-WF6" rarity... With the BSM and 3.8 SFI TURBO emblems removed, it looked as innocuous as Aunt Tilly's Regal...but...it wasn't...

Still have it.

Not to hi-jack thread, but would love to see pictures of said Regal haha.

I have a soft spot for GNs.

I'm pretty sure that broke the sound barrier.

If it was RWD and had a V8 I'd call it a Chevelle. BTW wasn't the Chevelle based off of a Malibu?

I think the Chevelle was the same body as the Malibu and was an upgrade kind of like the SS is to a regular Camaro. Not my area of expertise, sure somebody on here knows. They had Chevelle SS's but not sure if there were Malibu SS's.

The correct terminology back in the day was a Chevelle Malibu. Like in the full sized Chevys back then, you had several models that used the same body at different trim levels. So Biscayne, BelAir, and Impala all used the same body as did the mid '65 and later Caprice which was a 'dolled up" Impala. The base mid size car introduced in '64 was the Chevelle, the upgrade model was the Chevelle Malibu and Malibu SS.They may have dropped Malibu from the SS in the '70s, don't remember that detail for sure as I was more a Camaro fan/owner and I always felt the Chevelle was too big for my wants/needs.
