I've been wearing my seatbelt since I learned how to drive in 1969. In fact if I get into a car without seatbelts I am very uncomfortable.... I just cannot enjoy the ride with so many crazies out on the road.
My car does not move until everyone is buckled in...

What a joke of a post. Typical "conspiracy theory...the government is out to get us, man" statement. You really resurrected this thread to shove that nonsense down our throats? That Focus example was dumb...you survived because the car is a small box, and experiences no lateral forces in that accident. Of course you didn't go anywhere because there was NOWHERE FOR YOU TO GO!! If that car had rolled, I highly doubt you'd be here right now to type that post. If people are that concerned with getting "trapped" by their seatbelt, buy a cutter for $3 and keep it handy.

"It's my own damn car. I'm paying for it, and I do not want this feature in my car. I would be okay with it if it only reminded me once and then I decided to put it on or not, but it doesn't do this. It's like my car is TELLING me what to do, and I'm sorry but "I" control the car, not the other way around."
Probably the dumbest statement I've ever read. First of all, that would be all well and good if you were the only one on the road. Sure it's your own car, but your actions on the road also effect everyone else, because it is a shared public space. If you're on your property then sure, do whatever the hell you want...take your car off jumps for all I care. When you're on a public interstate, just because it's your car doesn't give you the right to put others in danger by driving however you want, or doing what you want.

Secondly, being that your not the only one on the road, what if something happens that's completely out of your control? You can be the most attentive, safest, and best driver in the world, but if some drunk driver in an F350 come barreling into you, I'd rather take my chances with my seatbelt on than off.

Maybe your argument would have been valid if we were all driving the metal death traps from the 1970s, but safety has come such a long way since then. Cars these days are remarkably safer than they used to be. Even Smart prides themselves on their "safety cell" that can withstand 3.5 tons. Car companies don't dump billions of dollars into safety research for fun...or to "annoy" people like you.

I'll believe the Firefighter, in saying he's never pulled a dead person out of a seat belt in 15+ years.

Agreed! Wouldn't it also irk you if, after battling cancer and such, you got taken out by something that could have been prevented by the simple click of a belt?

I do know back in 94 if it had not been for my seatbelt and air bag I would have been seriously injured in a 40mph collision with a 63 Ford Galaxie. I walked away without a scratch.

Nikitis,

Seat belts do save lives, proven fact. If you don't value your life, don't wear them. It's your choice.....

I know they do. I even said so in my post. But I also respect others decisions to not wear one. I wear one most of the time myself. The original poster wanted to know how to disable the chime, and I chimed in so to speak to tell him how. I dislike the forever chiming myself. I wish it would only remind me once then go away. If I forget to put one on, it's helpful, but if it keeps chiming away, it's detrimental to your safety and others. This was my main point regarding the chiming.

I also gave reasons as to why some people do not want to wear a seatbelt so that those who are brainwashed can at least somewhat understand their reasoning. And they do not believe seat belts are as safe as you may believe.

Some do not feel unsafe if getting into a car without their seatbelt on. Some won't start the car until they do. (As guy on this post has mentioned) This is just how people feel, and such things shouldn't be forced onto consumers is all. My personal stance is make it so it only chimes once. I may have forgotten myself, and if it's safe to pull over to do so I will, but I won't stop if it's not safe to stop, and I won't put it on while driving. Too easy to go off the road. Last thing I need in the latter situation is the damn car beeping at me over and over again. Drives me ****ing nuts. I'd rather have it disabled completely than to constantly repeat itself. Therefore I provided instructions on how to disable it.

As for the fire-fighter, I’d argue that they were already out of the car in most cases before he would arrive, that's why he hasn't seen that. Pulled out by a nearby pedestrian or by-standard.

Quick google search on seatbelt related deaths. How they died, and the date.

I won't say that people won't still die if they wear seatbelts but statistics show that in 2008 there was a 83% usage rate of seatbelts. They also show that 56% of deaths in 2008 were people not wearing seatbelts. So by that 56% of deaths in auto accidents were from 17% of the people that drive or were passengers. To me that is reason enough to always wear them.

Like I said I've never pulled any bodies out of a seat belt. I've cut many cars up over the years and I can count on one hand the number of times bystanders have pulled anyone out of a car. Another thing the majority of accidents are "fender benders" that fail to dicharge the airbags.

The facts stack up against any argument that says seat belts are dangerous. They have been serving faithfully for many decades.

I'm also an advocate of keeping the Government out of the civilians business. Sometimes though common sense for survival needs to over ride the desire to tell the government to go to hell.

Either my 2010 SS is different or I'm oblivious to it because I never wear them (don't lecture me I have a wife already).

It goes off when you first get in and after the first time you leave a traffic stop, but that's it. My Silverado does the same.

Maybe they changed in later years.

I used to wear my seatbelt more until an 82 year old lady ran me over while I was commuting to school on my motorcycle (she ran a red light).

I've done a lot of dumb things that should have gotten me hurt, but I was doing the speed limit for once and Darwin's theory worked in reverse on me.

Since then I take most trips wrapped in 4 tons of Dodge Cummins. However, it's all personal preference and certainly seat belts are safer or the Nascar guys wouldn't wear them. I also have some faith in those bazillion air bags our Camaros have.

Not sure how not wearing my seat belt would endanger other motorists unless I was ejected out on to their car.

My 2013 5.0 actually had a section in the owners manual on how to disable the seat belt chime..... I was shocked they put that in there.....
