Camaro is the best bang for buck performance.
Not so sure of that. Those skins I'm not sure of how they're going to hold up.

Exterior is preference. The Challengers have a "bigger, beefier" presence... a 'bigger car' stance. When I'm in my Camaro, I feel lower, sleeker, faster... but I still like the wife's Challenger...

Definitely the biggest bang for the buck is the Camaro IMHO.

I bought my Camaro in July 2009. Since then a coworker of mine has always talked about her and her husband wanting a Challenger. We have debated which is better and why since then. Last week she tells me that they are ready to buy a Challenger but it has to be Black, Manual and a SRT8. Based on price she was looking to buy it used. We were talking about it at lunch the other day and she says to bad a Dodge Dealership isnt near, she woulr love to test drive one. Turns out there was a Dodge Dealership a few blocks away so we stopped by (in my Black SS/RS...I made sure everyone heard the Cherry Bombs). Anyway, we look at a few used Challengers but none were SRT8s. The used slaesmen tells use there is one new SRT8 on the lot so we go over to the new car side. My coworker goes inside, gets a new car salesmen and two minutes later I am test driving the 2011 SRT8 (she said it would be hard to drive the stick in high heels).

I have to say I was impressed. It felt just a hair slower then my Camaro but mostly becuase when I would get on it there would be almost a slight delay. Not like the delay in my wifes V6 Honda Pilot (floor the gas, count to two, engine reeves, then the car starts to speed up). The delay was slight and it seemed like it was due to the weight of the car.

Anyway, it was a Black (w white stripes) 2011 Challenger SRT. The sales man did'nt know shit about the car so I asked for the book and started looking under the hood. Turns out it is a 6.4 liter, HEMI V8, 392cc with 470 HP (at the crank). She would up buying the car for something like $47K.

I looked up her car on edmunds and it claims 0-60 in 4.5 and 1/4 mile in 12.6 at 112mph
Edmunds lists the following for a stock SS, 0-60 in 5 and 1/4 mile in 31.1 at 109mph

I know it depends on the driver, but if we go to a track I wond if I could beat her (or her husband) with my mods (CAI CAI, ADM Scoop and Catback Cherry Bomb Extereme)?

0-60 in an auto SS is 4.6S. In an manual, it's supposedly 4.9. Also, keep in mind that you're comparing a $50K car to a ~$33K car...Spend $10K on mods and see who comes out ahead.

Oh, and the 2011 SRTs upgraded from a 6.1 to a 6.4, giving them 50 more hp.

If I spend 10K in mods I'd kill the stock 2011 SRT8.

You sure about the auto being faster then the stick with 26 fewer HPs? Maybe true from 0-60. I figure with my current mods I'm optomistically at around 450 hp. I wounder if being 400-500lbs lighter make up for the 20 HP difference?

I have to agree with those saying the price difference is a big deal. They have roughly the same performance, but the SRT is over $10k more. And Chevy has better reliability than Dodge historically. I'd go with the Camaro myself, but it is your money.

I'm currently looking into what car to buy. Based on what I'll spend, it's gonna either be a Camaro SS or a Mustang 5.0. The Challenger R/T is also in that price range, but it's outclassed performance wise to the Camaro and Mustang. The SRT is more inline with the Mustang and Camaro in performance, but again you gotta throw in an extra $10k for that model.

My almost fully loaded 2SS (stock, non-RS & no sun roof) against an SRT8 (stock) blew his doors off in drag race and track event for $10,000 LESS. Car is lighter and more nimble. When I test drove the Chally, I had to snap a plastic panel back on the center console. Wife said interior looked cheap. Only plus for Chally was our daughter loved the full back seat. She likes the middle to be able to see out the front. Put $10k in mods on the Camaro and it's a joke to compare.

Just saying

My guess is a stock 392 Challenger auto would best a stock LS3 or L99 SS, not sure about the manual. The nice thing for your friends is that they have purchased a limited production vehicle.

I hate it when ppl make posts like these. It just sounds so corny. What does it matter? He had the choice of loading out his SS as well. Yea the SRT-8s are more expensive, but they are still in the same class as the GT and SS.. Not the Shelby or ZL1..

Typo 31.1 should be 13.1.

Agreed.

I looke d at the 1/4 mile times posted on this website and found that a Camaro with similar mods as mine are in the 12.5 range.

Was the SRT a 2011? If not the 2009 and 2010 only have the 6.1 Hemi at like 400-420 HP. With the weight difference the stock SS would kill the older ones.
