Other than the two OTR intakes (which are a little over my budget) this intake is on my list I really like the design of it please PM me when you can put a price on the unit. Thanks!

Just came across this thread. I had no idea you were working on this, it looks great!! Great to see this from someone local! I'm from Medford. I see that you are located on Table Rock Road. My office is not to far, I'm on Vilas down near the Bi Mor. Nice job, I will keep an eye on this thread so I can follow your progess ! And if you ever need a v-6 for a test mule....

DYNO NUMBERS!!!

Well I finally got internet access so I could download the dyno run files and assess the situation...

Just so there's no mystery to it, the first graph shows all of the runs. Runs 6-8 are the stock intake, runs 3-5 the JacFab intake... Runs files 1 & 2 are not shown and were failed missions the dyno was not happy with it's failed tach pickup and not working. An optical pickup had to be used so unfortunately the hood had to be left open.

I'm sure the hood open will raise controversy, and complaints, BUT my stock box numbers were very similar to the original test with the first prototype, so I personally think that testing with the hood open had no influence on the numbers, otherwise the stock numbers might have been much higher than last time. I also think that if there was ANY benefit from leaving the hood open, the stock intake, would receive a greater benefit because the snorkel can pull fresh air easier, where as my intake has a lid, and is fairly well sealed so it probably still pulls most of its air from around the washer bottle.

Conditions: The runs were started at appx. 11:05am 9/12/12. Temp at the start of testing was 85.5, temp at the end of the stock box runs was 89.7, all runs were completed by 11:45am. Absolute pressure 30.1 in-Hg, vapor pressure 0.3 in-Hg,Altitude 4500, humidity 23%. CLT 190+, the car was at operating temp for all testing. I did manage to find a gas station in town that sold 92 Octane, fuel take consisted of 3/4 tank 92 Oct 1/4 tank 91 Oct E10 fuel. Notice no dip at 4100 this time with the 92 Oct.

The dyno operator obviously needs practice starting a run, I wanted to shove him out of the car, and do it myself. Disregard everything below 3.5k rpms.

The graph of all runs:

This is everything, all the cards... Notice that runs 7 and 8 are nearly identical. To give a number, I would junk the highs, and junk the lows, below is what I feel is a fairly accurate comparison between the stock intake and the JacFab intake...

The comparison:

You may say this is an unfair comparison because the stock intake number is less than my stock intake number from the first test... Realize that the first test of the original intake was done back in April, nice good air on a 65 degree morning (10am), fast forward to yesterday, crap fall/summer 90 degree air. I think it's a fair comparison.

JacFab intake +17.87HP, +16.06TQ. A minimum of 14 ft lbs of torque gained through the whole curve, and up 30 ft lbs in places... An average gain of 17.16 HP (above 3500), and an average of 19.62 ft lbs of torque (above 3500)... WITH NO SCOOP!

Instant gains
, big gains, all the way through the rpm range... As I've said before, and it says on our website, "This thing pulls like a freight train!"... No Joke.

Run videos to come later when I get home, probably in a couple days.

Discuss.

Looks outstanding. You may not be able to make these fast enough. Based on the change in AFR it's like getting an air intake and a tune all in one.

I find it interesting because it uses a seal box, the velocity stack or horn reminds me of another system and it is using an aftermarket OEM replacement filter. It's like a hybrid but there isn't anything like it. Very nice numbers and I'd imagine a scoop, with washer bottle removal or relocation, would show at least the same additional gains as with other systems.

I worked over the first video with the new run videos, new intake picture, graph, numbers, etc.

Well it had to come out sooner or later, the intake does indeed use the same shape filter as the factory filter, so there are lots of options for filter brands, and they are easy to come by...

Why did I choose to utilize a factory drop in replacement? 1) Obviously cost is a reason. They are readily available, and there are several brands to choose from... 2) The shape was prefect for where the intake mounts to allow the velocity stack / filter clamp piece to clear all the A/C lines, radiator, and radiator hose. I do not think I could have pulled it off so cleanly with a full on square/rectangular filter. 3) Although I'm sure it would rarely happen, another benefit to using the stock shape filter is that in the event of an emergency where the filter is ruined (Rodent eats it, sucks in a small child, etc), a replacement can be found almost anywhere to get you going down the road again. Would it be an optimal filter? Most likely not, but one can be had easily, and get you on your way.

Pictures below show the intake in it's true form (although the MAF is on the wrong side)... No camera tricks to make it look like it doesn't use a factory drop in filter...

If you follow the random crap I post about filters, etc, I think you can see why I am a fan of the drop in filters now. In the right application (this), they flow an incredible amount of air, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a drop in filter.

So how many jaws hit the floor after dropping this bomb?

I'd like to see some track testing on your intake.

Couldn't drop any farther after seeing the gains

This thread was created after trying out the very first prototype intake at the track:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216789

I picked up .252 over my previous fast time (when stock) in similar air just by adding the original prototype intake, and doing the DIY short throw shifter mod.

I have not run the current version at the track yet as there hasn't been a race for quite a while, and I missed the last race which was Friday to make the trip to dyno the car (4.5 hrs away)
