the LS3 has 426 HP, the 5.0 ratstang has 412 HP, Chevy does not need to bump up anything.

Here we go again. WE need to have a general list of questions so we don't have to keep beating a dead horse. It's not always about HP. With the mustang being lighter it will be a drivers race. I think ford was more interested in getting the GT over the 400HP mark to looses it stigma with the mustang then to get into a pissing match with camaro over who is a tenth or two quicker. Remember they already make a mustang that outright beats the camaro (the GT500). So until camaro brings out the Z/28 they don't have to have the gt kill the SS they just have to compete with it and the new 5.0l will do fine with that.

The only Mustang I would even consider is the GT500... and that being said i would buy a Camaro SS over that and have it simply tuned with a new exhaust to about 500HP... Hell my Z51 has about 480HP with just a tune and a performance CAI.

not to mention that I think the new Mustangs are sissified.

No harm.. but I think the two cars will be equal due to the Mustang's lighter weight. Of course I think the Camaro handles better due to a much more advanced platform and suspension system but the extra weight is what will hinder the Camaro in out and out beating the GT. Teh weight is also what helps the Mustang get better fuel economy.

Until Zeta II or Alpha come out with lighter weight... More HP is the way to offset the differences. This is easily achieved too.. but for some reason GM just won't just be aggressive in these one on one battles. The 3.6L for instance should and could easily be at 330HP by now. I have personally seen dyno data with minimum upgrades pushing out 350HP. The LS3 is easily bumped to 450HP.. and as I demonstrated with my own Vette... and too my surprise even more that is easily achieved for less than $600

Well, the V6 Camaro had a good run. Good mileage, 300 HP, Ford deserves a golf clap for having great engineers.

Look at it this way? When you play a game of chess...do you begin using your Queen piece right at the start? Or will you send in some pawns first, and try to do as much damage as possible with your rooks and knights?

THEN...when you've exhausted your resources, you pull out a check-mate and end the game. It's the same here. You can't improve upon something that's already been improved.

I'd be interested in taking a new stang for a test drive to see how it compares to the LT Camaros. I'm wondering if they sacrificed some get-up-and-go to make the extra MPG.

Sounds like it has taller gears so you could be right. You have to remember Ford is on a different path then chevy. I don't think speed in their V-6 is the number one thing driving their design here.

GM will strike back but not now. The primary mover in this product is the V8 for now, so GM is going to keep the V8 in front. When V6 sales of Camaros start to reach more realistic proportions, GM will try to eat Ford's market share with upgrades. GM improving its product is a pretty predictable response. Give it time.

GM isn't aggressive enough? they put 304hp in their base car at a time when dodge had 250 and ford 210. They aren't going to put much more in it, because they need to get good mileage. So the mustang is .1 sec quicker to 60.

The Camaro still looks Cool.

The problem is it's still a Mustang.. and I love My Camaro... I would say I could squeeze out over 31 MPG out of it if I tried.. I have already hit 29.1 on a trip to Knoxville Tenn...

it may actually end up being a bit slower. we'll have to wait n see what the road tests bring out.

This is just crazy talk. Of course they are. In almost every instance in recent memory the Camaro has always out performed the Mustang. How far do you have to go back when then Mustang had out performed the Camaro when considering V6 and V8 standard models? It's been awhile.
