In the US, Constable is an outdated term and is the title given to the person who processes and serves papers and is over Civil Processing. While they are sworn officers, they are not traffic cops.

Around here they do the serving of court papers and also serve as baliffs to the Justice of the Peace courts. They also help in funerals and are called out when the JP has to pronounce death at homes and accident scenes. Our last JP had a 2002 Z28, but his replacement got a challenger for his official car.
