That would be best; I'm thinking you should get in the 16-17K range. As I understand GAP insurance it only covers the deficit between what insurance pays and the amount still owed on your car. If you get more from insurance then is owed to the finance company GAP does not come into play.

GAP Insurance is also known as Guaranteed Auto Protection or Guaranteed Asset Protection and as GAP within the North American financial industry. GAP insurance covers the difference between the actual cash value of a vehicle and the balance still owed on the financing (car loan, lease, etc.).[1] GAP coverage is mainly used on new and used small vehicles (cars and trucks) and heavy trucks. Some financing companies and lease contracts require it.[2]

Correct, gap only covers the difference between insurance and what you owe. You should total it, I knew something didn't sound right from your post a day ago, now it makes more sense. You should probably total it, with the amount of damage I think that's your best deal. One thing I don't understand, the dealer you're at has a bunch of cars that are hail damaged, didn't the SS you're looking at also get damaged?

No chance the painless dent guy looked at the damage and said he was not going to work it. It will be useless and recommended to replace every panal.

Be happy it's totaled. In the end it's the best thing that could have happened.

I'd start talking to a bank about loan values & looking at private party SS sales across the county. No trade-in means fly and drive home a lot easier.

What a bummer! Glad that the situation with your insurance company seems to have taken a good turn, but we're sorry about your 2LT.

Take care,

I hope they're giving you a smoking deal on the one they are repairing. I wouldn't buy a hail damaged vehicle, pdr repair or not. Although its a proven technology, you still take the risk of paint flaking off or some other paint problem at some point.
