7.4" will most likely not put you in the acceptable preload range.

What size cam is it and what lobe is it on? I can probably tell you what you need just based off of that having done so many.

They did just change Pennzoil Plat and it isn't as good any more. If you can find the older spec stock up on it, the new stuff isn't nearly as good.

Would probably be nice to see a list of guys that are selling cams that are not using comp cams cores.

Rotella T6 is another "cheap" high zinc content and good shear additives.

If I was someone who didn't know how good that oil is or much about oil, your post would have me looking at other oils. That's how annoying they are. If your affiliated with Joe Gibbs somehow you really need to go about your support in a different way because at this point you might actually be hurting them rather than helping. Just my opinion of course and some friendly advice.
+100000000 ..His posts are like a copy/paste of his one and only original post about oil quality and trillion links to the same tests..man, that's heavy! Please stop!

I was asking in another topic related thread why I never saw so much damaged cam thread on LS1tech forums...My next cam wont be a comp cam. This whole cam whine BS is non sense!!

These Spartan guys were talking about it on ls1tech a long time ago. That's where I first read about the bad comp cores. It's the same thread where I learned that Tracy (SC2150) was a huge asshole too haha.

That sucks, and it figures. The EPA is ruining all the good oils one by one.

Rotella is good stuff if you don't have cats. We use that too, and I personally run it in my Silverado (gas motor).

Same problems all over LS1tech and other forums. I'll be going with Cam motion for my cam. At least if there are any issues, Kip will take care of it. Customer service goes a long way these days.

We build 50+ engines per yer whether it be a free standing engine for a customer or inside a car, using Cam Motion camshafts and have yet to have one problem or failure. This ranges anywhere from street use to 7500rpm track use and everything in between. Dry sump, wet sump, etc.

The Pennzoil API SM was the good stuff, they just switched to API SN and the wear rating testing went down something like 25%. It is stupid and sucks. Ohh well. Just move on to another decent oil.

I like Royal Purple HPS. Look at there web site it's a real oils company they make there own oil. I will start another thread about oils later but for now look at this. I am sure they are not the only ones.

well, 1500 to 1800 PPM. That's what Mobil 1 racing oil has.

and if spring pressure is doubled, the boundary layer is probably about half, so you need double concentration.

About 4 years ago I suggested this might be Comp Cam core problems and had a mod nicely tell me "back off" if I did not know for sure. As I posted earlier, hunch/opinions were based on experiences years ago with flat tappet stuff

Again, it's not exactly a Comp Cam problem, but they apparently sell the most of the cams with the suspect cores from elsewhere.
