Comp cam @ 5,000 miles

I figured I would pass along this info for those of you who have had the same kind of cam whine as I have had. These pictures were taken with 5,000 miles on this cam since new. The lobes are LSL and the lift is under .625
I had whine from day one and seemed to get a bit worse towards the end, the reason why I took it out... This was also ran with a single beehive spring nothing aggressive there. It's hard to make out in the pictures but as you see where the lifter was following the cam there seems to be what looks like ridges or chatter in the contact area. You can't feel the ridge with your fingernail but it's visible.
So, right or wrong I chose to just change the cam and took a chance not changing the lifters. VIOLA..No more cam whine with a different cam manufacturer. I will more then likely change the lifters when the heads come off this winter.
My set-up was run with LS30 oil from day one, so I'd like to think that's not a contributing factor in this.
Take this for what it's worth, just wanted to make you aware of what you may be up against if you have the whine like I did. Remember this was only 5,000 miles on this stick.

Lot of this crap going around lately. Good you got it changed out before you had more serious problems down the road. LSL lobes are pretty mild as well. Oil quality pretty much gets ruled out as well with LS30. Did you send it back to Comp?

That's impossible. A good quality oil is ALL you need. I've seen it posted several times now.

I think you misinterpreted my post. I am saying oil quality was most likely not a factor in the wear.

I've got him added to an ignore list. It's safer I do that than say something that will get me suspended.

I tried not to laugh about the oil thing, but I did. I'm sorry.

First pic I thought "Eh, looks fairly normal.". Second and third pic however, good catch. Definitely on it's way to failure. Like I said before, it seems that cam cores themselves are the problem. We've had this problem with parts at work. Too much outsourcing and not enough QC anymore.

What I'm curious to see is other cams for reference.

Anyone have pictures of a "whining cam" that has 10-20k miles on it with no known running issues besides whining? Maybe removed due to whining or upgrade.

Also any pics of a "non" whining cam with the same criteria. No known running issues and 10-20k miles.

If so please post with brand/miles/whine/no whine.

Been busy so far today, I will try to get it out to Comp tomorrow. I'll keep you posted to what they have to say about it.
