It is not hard. It does become second nature after awhile. I love mine. I just got my 2010 Camaro six-speed. I live in a small town but travel alot on the interstate. It doesn't bother me to shift while in traffic in town.

You can get them with a paddle shifter so they can sell more. You can get them with the standard shifter setup

Although my INDPOWR prefers standard we went auto, for the safety of all the other motorist on the road being I would be the one driving her the most

The instructor was good. I'm glad I went with standard

The determining factor for me was traffic and rush hour. Is it a daily driver? do you live in a Metro city where traffic is a serious issue. That would be the determining factor for me. in the big city there is nothing worse than shifting with a clutch during heavy traffic on a daily basis. If this is the case than the Automatic is a no brainer or your left leg is going to be significantly over worked more than the right. on the other hand if you dont live in a biog city and rush hour is not an issue then Manual is definitely the way to go. Its also a matter of what is the car used for are yo gpoing tpo be racing and running Quarter miles for times or is this a pimp mobile for frontin and looking fly. If your a racer than get the standard if your pimpin than the auto is the obvious choice. It truly sucks pumpin the damn clutch at every freakin sto;light and inching your way thrpugh traffic and you'll be sickj of the stick after the newness wears off.

Get a mountain bike..maybe you can double your 'speeds'

It really is personal preference these days. Some people prefer the feel of having to manage the tranny; some people (like me) prefer to keep their hands on the wheel and their attention on the road.

Both modes of thought have their advantages, and the only thing I'll say in support of mine is that the pluses from a manual that are based in fact rather than sensation are becoming less and less each passing year.

So...if you like working the tranny enough that you can live with the problems it presents in traffic and other situations, then that's what you should get. If you find that shifting constantly degrades your enjoyment, or that not doing it makes no difference to you, get an auto.

Either way, ya' got a Camaro. It's all good.

Clearly, you have not driven the L99. I drove a 5-speed manual 1983 Camaro from 1983 to 2003. Drove a 6-speed manual 2002 Z28 from 2002 to 2009 (yep, about a year overlap on those two cars). Then bought my L99.

I "drive" the L99 every day and have just as much fun as I ever did in my manual transmission cars. Here's the deal, as I see it. If you've never driven a manual before--that's the way to go if you get a Camaro. Shifting and clutching is a really fun "driving" experience for a couple of years.

But as others have said, once you become an experienced stick shift driver, everything about shifting becomes automatic. You stop looking at the tach (don't need to) and you often don't even need to use the clutch to shift gears. At that point, the clutch begins to feel like an extra step at the stop light to get moving--and is just a pain to use in heavy traffic (trust me, no fun at all).

So now that I have my L99, I can actually enjoy every minute of my driving experience...and if I want to be even more engaged, I can use the tap-shift!

Bottom line: everyone is entitled to their own opinion about this topic. This is mine. Read and heed, or toss it. The only way you'll discover how you really feel about it is to drive both for an extended period of time. And the only one whose opinion should really matter is your own.

So go out and drive and enjoy!
