Male + V8 = vroom vroom fast and hard simple math really

If you have the power, you will use it, is all I'm saying and that does come with a price.

It's not nice to stereotype

Besides... It doesn't matter what the engine is, PEOPLE are going to speed... Not just males... We just don't have the cleavage to get out of speeding tickets, so males are always "higher risk"

haha ... tru that.

I only speak from experience when I say male+V8. I'm sure women+V8 = the same

lol, yeah, having the extra power will cause some people issues...

But the V6 will be able to light up the tires easilly enough...

The only common drivetrain item between the two is the rear diff...
Everything else is built for either the V6 power, or the V8 power...

a) Cost of the V8
b) Gas
c) Insurance
d) Tires .. and you will be going through a lot of tires on a V8 more ever then a V6 and they get VERY VERY expensive and these tired are "Z" rated I think ... very soft, something like $400 a tire. I had tires like that once that only lasted about a year. I was spending $1800 with tax a year on tires.
e) Tickets ... lets face it, you have a V8, are you really going the speed limit ... I don't think so
f) rough replacements ....

I think you are making WAY too many assumptions here.

A) The cost of a bare bones 1SS MSRP is $30,245 a loaded 2LT $30,080 (sunroof, boston acoustics, RS package, connectivity) and that is the MT not the AT which is another $1000.

So they are exactly the same cost off the floor

B) Gas - Most people with the V6 will probably be putting at least 89 in if not giving that high compression V6 93 anyway BUT if they were going to use 87 vs 93. Its only about $1.60 more per fillup to have the V8 with 93. As far as MPG, if you are flooring both cars you get no savings anyway, if you are driving for maximum gas savings (well you shouldn't even have bought a camaro lol) but the V6 will get about 6-8 MPG better on the highway on average given the same driving style. This could be significant depending on how much you drive the car. For me and my DD I put on less then 10K miles a year on a car so that wouldn't really amount to much $ over the life of the car. I fill up once every 10-14 days now with a turbo subaru getting 21 mpg so even the V8 would be equal if not better for me at the pump.

C) Insurance - all depends on your rate. I live in NJ which has the highest rates in the country. I am 31 years old and for a 2009 Vette i was quoted $1200 a year. My surbaru legacy (4 banger) costs me $1068 a year. So if the camao is equal to a vette (which should actually be more to insure) then there really isn't going to be much savings between the V8 and the V6 based upon what my suabru 4 banger costs. Cost my be higher for either just b/c it is a camaro BUT the diff between the two quotes would be minimal.

D) Tires - This is a huge assumption you are making. Yes the V8 tires are more expensive BUT just b/c you have a V8 doesn't mean you will be doing burnouts and taking corners at 90 mph. You could do both of those with the V6 too or simply not at all if you are not a 17 year old trying to show off. Look how many vette owners never drive over 60 mph haha just b/c you have a beast of a car doesn't mean you use it that way ALL THE TIME.

So over the life of the car the cost diff for the same driver V6 vs V8 in tires would be minimal as well.

E) Tickets - Huge assumption here. Again you have to consider the same owner/driver for both cars. Just b/c you buy the V8 doesn't mean all of a sudden your driving style goes crazy. If you are the type to get speeding tickets you will just as easily get them in the V6 as the V8. No matter if you have a civic, a prius, or a camaro

F) Rough Replacements - Again if you drive a car hard you will wear things out no matter what it is and the cost of the V8 parts is for the most part going to the the same replacement cost as those on the V6. And since the V8 is built to be driven a little harder I would even guess that the V6 would have more of this if you rode it hard since it isn't built as tough so the V6 might cost more here

I am not trying to be a jerk at all, don't get me wrong. But I just don't think people understand that there really isn't much cost between these 2 cars once you own them. The only real measurable one is gas and if you own a camaro and are worried about MPG that much then why bother, get a corolla since if you want to get 30+ mpg out of this car you aren't going to be enjoying what it can do anyway (other then looks).

You only live once, I have had a 1997 Z28 and a 1968 GTO and I owned some v6's and 4 bangers in there too. Every day i get in my Subaru (which at one point was a 12 second car) I wish I had my V8 Z28 still. I see a lot of people that buy the V6's and regret not getting the 8, but you never see anyone who got the 8 that regrets not getting the 6......

I ordered the 2LT/RS for my daily driver i still have the show queen in the garage my 01 Z/28, and the wife gave me the ok to order the 2SS/RS Convertible when they are available. The 2LT/RS is just something to get me by so I can enjoy the 5th Gen she knows I have onted one the day I saw the concept.

So in the end I will have the best of both worlds
