Bare bones 1SS or loaded 2LT/RS?

Title pretty much says it all.

I've always driven American V8's, so the idea of getting an LS engine sounds pretty sweet. However, I can't afford the 2SS. I figured out that I can get a loaded 2LT/RS for about the same as an entry-level SS. No offense to people who drive V6's, but part of me won't let myself drive a V6 muscle car. Decisions, decisions.

Or I could always try to get a 2SS at invoice in a year or so...

Loaded 2lt unless your wanting to race etc etc. I mean ss you must put premium fuel in the car. Plus the gas mileage isn't as good as the v6. Plus don't forget bout the insurance being higher on ss. thats what made my mind up.

When I buy cars, I don't like compromise. I know what I want, it's a big investment, and I'll be stuck with it for a couple years at least.

So basically...

Good luck on the invoice deal in a year...

I think this is your answer.

I am not sure what the price difference is between the 1SS and 2SS but personally I'd try and save up the difference between them and go with the 2SS. If that's not an option, get the 1SS.

I think if you can get over that v6 muscle car is not good stigma. The 2LT is the better deal. You get everything in the car you want at a price you can afford And very respectable performance. Now on the other hand if you want the hp and don't care about the amenities. ( which I believe you want) then go 1SS

I am going 1SS/RS. I get all the go and most of the show. THe only thing I will be missing that I might have wanted would be the leather.. The rest of it is add ons later, custom mods that will come out to be better than the stock 2SS in my opinion. Good luck with your choice.

I can't compromise on the options that a 2LT offers, and based on all the V6 reviews that are coming in - you won't be dissapointed.

Don't let the gas price be the deciding factor... at $.20 more per gallon x 18 gallons = $3.60 (at most) extra when you go to fill it up... not much to worry about... you miss out on 1 happy meal per week ()... a sacrifice that is well worth the sound/feeling of a V8

Insurance, on the other hand, could be a different story. I have heard a lot of people getting great rates on the SS though, so I'd contact your insurance agent and price them both out.

If you're going to get it, make sure you get what you want... don't "settle" or you'll always be wondering "what if....."

again. The difference, if you spread it out over a 5-6 year loan, is really not all that much. Monitor your spending for a month or 2, and see where you spend "too much" money (food, beer, etc.). Then you know where you can make a few cuts (i.e. bring a sandwich to work instead of going out to lunch, buy a case of beer at the store instead of $3/beer at the bar, don't go to the movies a much and rent the DVD, stuff like that). The easy way to do this is what I did before I went apartment hunting... for a couple months or so, I made sure that every single thing I bought, I used my debit card... no cash... then I went online to my bank account, and looked through all of the transactions, put them on a spreadsheet by category, and I was able to see how much I spent on stuff. Let me tell you, I was very surprised at how much I spent on going out to eat! It doesn't seem like much, but damn it adds up. It was nice though since I got to figure out a monthly estimate for how much I spent on food, gas, etc. It really gives you a great idea of how much you can actually afford vs. how much you think you can afford. Give it a shot

I though about getting the 1 SS , but with the extended wait time to delivery I went for the 2SS; sure I could have done w/o the leather seats, but wanted the gauge package w/o having to buy it as an accessory and also the steeering wheel-on the 1 ss you only part of the wheel mounted controls on one side-it look incomplete to me. Think about it, the 2LT will have the 'complete' wheel too if you don;t want to go 2SS

You can see below what I decided. Fastors were better on Gas and Insurance. Lower price helped but was not a big concern to me.

This will be your car, YOU need to make the call. Don't let anyone here tell you what is better. You are the only one that knows what will be better for you. Ask for advice sure, but decide for yourself.

1SS. Easier to add the amenities of the 2LT in the aftermarket than to drop in an LS3, I think.

Wow, this nailed it on the head!

We really took money for granted until my wife lost her job. When she lost her job we did exactly what you did (put everything on debit, made the spreadsheets, etc.) Just cutting out going out to eat (going out to lunch everyday and going out to eat Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights). I alone (not including the wife's savings) saved $500/month. That's a car payment right there!

She has a better job now than she did...but we haven't gone back to the old ways. We go out to lunch with coworkers on Fridays and go out to dinner once during the weekend.

the chevy website says you can actually put regular fuel in the SS. premium for increased performance only, but not required.
