I'm surprised they'd do this right before the rebirth of the 5.0L V8. Yes, the Camaro has stolen a lot of sales from the Mustang, but I would imagine some potential pony car buyers will flock back to Mustang with release of the new powerplant. Too little, too late I guess?

Hell I'd consider getting one myself just because I'm moving back to FL soon and want a convertible so badly. The only thing that will probably stop me is I just can't get excited about the Mustang's looks compared with the Camaro and Chally. Yeah, we buy these cars for performance, but we buy 'em to look good, too, dammit!

I thought Ford was going to start building the 2011 Mustang in March or April. With the new Cobra 350 and other new models Ford has its work cut out for it to beat the Camaro!

HUH, cause I thought Mazdas were made at the Ford factory. Much of their end profits are going to Japan. I would say at least Camaro's end profits are coming here. I knew it wouldn't be long before the Mustang Trolls came on.

Ford putting a good non-forced induction powertrain into the Mustang for the first time this century will not bring the Camaro/Mustang sales deficit back to what had been. The Camaro and Mustang should each get minor upgrades for the next 3 years or so but I think during that time the Camaro should edge the numbers out by a little saleswise.

Thank you. That's exactly why I said it was not being built to compete with the Camaro.
It's a specialty vehicle that will be available in VERY low numbers.

Well I for one am Damm glad they build the Camaro in Oshawa, they turn out a first class product there, the third gen firebird I had that had been built in Van Nuys Calif. had lots of trips to the dealer for repairs including a complete new wiring harness after smoke came out of the dash,(that time it was towed in).No country in the world has a monolopy on good or bad products....

Could it B??? Camaro Forces Mustang Lay-Off!!!

Quote:
Ford will reduce shifts from two to one in July at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. The plant, which is jointly owned with Mazda Motor Corp., also makes the Mazda6 midsize sedan.

The plant employs nearly 2,300 people. Most of the layoffs will be hourly manufacturing workers, but some salaried staff also will be cut, Ford spokeswoman Marcey Evans said.

Evans said there was significant down time at the plant last year and Ford can get the volume it needs from one shift. Mustang sales fell 27 percent last year, in part because of competition from the Camaro, which went on sale in the spring and came within 5,000 cars of outselling the Mustang. The Camaro hasn't outsold the Mustang since 1985. Mazda6 sales were down 34 percent.

dang. i saw today that the state and federal government might have to layoff people too. I know it sucks because I have been unemployed for more than a year and would never wish that upon anyone especially someone with a family.
