Long tubes w/high flow cats,no tune...running lean?

I've decided to go with Lt's with race cats and a 3" exaust.

My question is..will I run to lean with out the tune? Is running to lean
a bad thing? I dont wont to void my warranty with a tune just yet so
that's why I'm concerned with this..Maybe some of you guys thats done
the above can help out?.....Thanks Daniel

I may not know but i think that the moderator on this forum by the name of TAG UR IT has Lt's with race cats and a 3" exhaust and is not going to do a tune till his warranty is up and i will do the same till i get 30,000 mi on my car, And if i am right his car was made by Tom Henry Racing, This is his Member Car Journals http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24085

The problem is every car is different. You should have your car hooked up to a wide band to check its A/F. That's really the only way to know how your car is really running. One car can have a perfect A/F, while the next car with the same mods might not be.

I agree on the A/F but there is more to that all the V8 stock cars run rich at WOT so to add LTs will only get them closer to the right A/F of 12.4-12.7 at WOT.

But throw on a CAI and you could be running lean. Most cars with just headers seem to be just fine (a/f wise).

I would be carefull- run it lean and run it hard, will cause it to ping and could very likely cause pre ignition, pre ignition in the Harley world will literally blow the top of a piston off. I'm sure similiar symptoms would happen in the automotive world.

Warranty would not be an issue since you could actually cause more harm due to it being to lean.

My thoughts,
Mike

My Camaro was experiencing, as described by my tuner, "some knock up top" before it was tuned for my CAI, Longtubes, high flow cats, and catback.

So what if I got the above done and later found out it was running lean?
What would be my options? Besides a tune?

What is a/f ?
A/F is your air-fuel ratio. It should be around 12.5 - 12.9 or so for maximum performance. If it's too high, your engine can become damaged over time.

A/F too high = lean - not enough fuel
A/F too low - rich - too much fuel
