Break in period

Haven't got my car yet (:() but just read in another thread that the car will be limited by the computer until 750 miles, not letting you beat on it or take kit "too far". Somehow I find that hard to believe, but maybe it's accurate. So, is it true or false about the 750 mile limiter, and what is the "proper" break-in period (per the manuafacturer).

Obviously track car motors don't get 750 miles on them before being pounded on. Also I know people will say "break it is properly, drive it hard from the begining" but that doesn't mean it's a safe sentiment.

What does the manual say, and does the car's computer have any say in how the cars is driven in the earlier miles?

Check your glove box for the manual...

1500 miles is the break in period.
<4000 rpm
<80 mph
No full throttle starts
No full on breaks

It is tough! I am at 1380 miles...

I have never heard of this 750 mile limiter to enforce the break-in period of car. I doubt it is true.

Wow is all I can say. Did the dealer also state you were required to buy the mega-extended warranty?

Oh yeah, the check is in the mail...

LOL - yeah, no car yet so no glove box to check! That reference to the 750 mile thing was from someone elses comment in another thread, not any dealer. Seemed pretty inaccurate to me but wanted to verify .

I thought the break in period was the length of drive from the car dealer to the road. After that, it's full throttle.

Never heard of any limiters but then again I really didn't push it until 1000 miles.

I've never heard of this on a Camaro, but other high performance cars limit the output over some kind of break-in period. I've heard the GT500 does it, maybe the ZL1 does too. Maybe not...every car is different.

They don't come with 5 year, 100,000 mile warranties either.

I'm coming up on 7K and I broke mine in like all my cars, HARD! Set the rings early, no oil blowby and have power to spare.

I used the hard break in method, seat the rings and etc, there are two sides to this. I built a 383 and slammed it as soon as it was installed. Man I miss my 69 Chevelle... sad..

Look up break in on Camaro five you will get both sides.

It's a matter of preference. I drove mine spirited-ly, but not hard, during the break-in period, basically introducing the car to a good range of the RPM band, some progressive stops, and some good pulls without nailing the rev limiter...

I know people that have babied their cars since new, and the engines outlast the rest of the car. My dad is one that drives cars hard out of the box, and the engines in his cars have lasted just as long.

But no, there's no limiter in the car's computer that magically lifts at 700 miles or whatever.
