Comments on my Hurst Throw Shifter

I installed my Hurst shifter back in February and finally pulled my car out for a drive this week due to mid-60's weather here in the greater Detroit area. I had read most of other's comments on the Hurst shifter and was really looking forward to evaluating it for myself.

After driving the car on three different occasions for a total of maybe 50 miles, I am happy with the shifter. It is a HUGE improvement over the stock shifter. It is definitely more "mechanical" than the stock shifter rod. I get a distinct click from the shifter when going into third gear. That is really the only noticeable sound. It engages into all gears smoothly. 3rd and 5th gears are MUCH easier to find with this shifter.

I have not heard any of the noises that I have read about from others. From a sound stand point it is identical. As far as the "looseness" is concerned, I would say mine seems about normal. I get a good 1/4" to 3/8" of play from side to side when it is in any gear. I do not see this as a big deal at all. I believe this is more of a design issue (maybe intended) with the shifter assembly and not necessarily something specific to the Hurst shift rod (can't see how it would be). I do not recall ever checking to see if my stock shift rod did this. My bet is it did and I just never noticed it. In any event I do not see this as a problem.

All in all, I paid sub $300 for the shifter and I really think it is worth it. It makes my car feel like a "real" stick now. Short throw, easy engagement, huge improvement.

Just took my car out this week, first time since October when I had installed a Hurst but only got to drive it a few times with the shifter in. I must say I love this shifter, no noise or play like others have complained about this winter. I love the feel and shifting with a flick of my wrist. I just have to decide on a chrome ball or a aluminum anodized black ball.

I love my Hurst shifter as well...mine sounds identical as yours...little if any play while in gear, clicking sound when going into gear....which I love to hear...short, crisp, great feel!!

Overall...one of the best mods!

I picked this up from Jegs. It's larger in diameter than the stock white ball that
cam with the Hurst. I have big hands and this one feels much better. I also think the black goes much better with the interior.

Thats cool, I just don't like having the shift pattern on the ball and the console. Plain black would be better I think.
