It's definitely at the higher end of the spectrum, but then again, it essentially has two powertrains installed in the car.

At a recent auto show GM made the mistake of putting the Volt at 44k next to a Cruze at 19k. My son looked at both and decided he would rather have the 100,000 miles of free gas with the Cruze than the interior upgrades of the Volt.

I guess If you really think about it, the price for the Volt and what your getting is fairly priced.

If I could afford the Volt I would rather have the Volt than the Cruze.

Everybody drives a Cruze. not everybody drives a Volt.

Well, that would be the risk I would take. haha

And of course I'd have to live with my business decision. But it would not make me a villain.

If I were to buy a 1969 Camaro for fairly cheap I'd damn sure mark that sucker up to market value. Market value being whatever someone was willing to pay for it.

But it was NOT dealer markups that killed the Volt.

You do get what you pay for. That's the bottom line, if you're in the market for an EV.

That being said, it's obvious to everyone that EVs are simply priced too high to sell in high volumes right now. However, that doesn't mean it's the end of this project. As development continues, the costs will come down. It's just a matter of getting started.

I've said it before. I wouldn't mark up the price of a loaf of bread to people who could barely afford it.

But someone who could afford a Volt. I'm not going to lose any sleep.

With people still buying 4 and 5 hundred horse power big V8s I think the market for a car like the Volt is just not there yet.

NOT at that cost anyway. And until they can get the cost down it'll just never fly.

At least GM and other are trying. Without trying it'll NEVER get done.

If the Gas Prices do go up to $5 a gallon which eventaully will. People will turn to EV's.

And that could be the end of our Big V8's!!

Let's face it, even if the msrp was as low as 30k it was still not affordable to those who are sinking with gas prices.

I should also point out that I am no economist. Just how it seems to me.

Making the Volt a political punching bag doesn't help sales either....which it continues to be.

This thread proves it.

I agree.

People's that needs these EV cars can't afford them. And people that can afford these EV cars dont want them.

It's funny how life works.

They'll still be around. The Gen V V8s sounds promising. Especially fuel economy-wise.

It's ridiculous how many people in this country openly want the car to fail.

I haven't noticed anyone wanting the car to fail.

(other than the opposition fanboys)
