Do any Kentucky dealers have Camaros?

I still have not seen the car in person and at over 6'6", I can't order without sitting in it first.

I am in East KY and and have not seen any around here. If you look at the thread that has all the VINs listed there are about 7 with VINs. I hope to get mine in late May. Here is a link to the thread as well.

Rod Hatfield Chevrolet in Lexington got their first Camaro this afternoon. I was reading this thread and decided to drive by and see if it was there yet. I didn't see it in the showroom or on the lot, so I parked up and asked the salesman who met me if they had any Camaro brochures. He told me that they had just got their first actual Camaro about an hour before I got there and took me back to the service area to see it.

They were still detailing it to put on the showroom floor. It's a Rally Yellow 2SS/ RS with an auto tranny and black interior. They'd also ordered the ground effects package and were debating whether or not to put it on before they put it on the showroom floor. Hopefully good taste will win that argument and they'll leave that crap in the boxes.

I also watched them stick the dealer markup sticker beside the window sticker. They want an additional $9,995.00 for "Adjusted Market Value." X10. The regular sticker on it was right at $39,000. Glad I have to wait until my wife's van is paid off before I start seriously looking to buy. All of that "Adjusted Market Value" hysteria will be gone, at least.

I sat in it for about 30 seconds, so all I got was a quick impression. There was some old guy there who appeared to be seriously thinking about paying $10,000 too much for it, so I felt obligated not to hog the seat time while he was trying to get a look at it too. I'm 5'11" and I felt that it was kind of tight in the cockpit, BUT: 1.) I didn't mess with the seat controls at all, so a better (lower) seat position probably exists; 2.) The car had a sunroof, which cuts into the headroom a little bit; 3.) I had just gotten out of my work car, which is a Ford Crown Vic and has crazy amounts of headroom. If I was 6'6" I would definitely want to sit in one first as well.

The salesman I was talking to said that they had a black one on order as well, but didn't know when they would get it. I took a couple of pics with my crappy cellphone camera and I'll see about posting them later.

Just for kicks I drove by Freedom Dodge and saw that they had seven Challengers sitting on the lot. I stopped by to take a look and noticed that they were no longer putting dealer mark- up on the Challengers anymore. When the Challenger SRT8 came out last Fall, Freedom Dodge had stuck a mark- up of $19,995 on them. They had two SRT8s on the lot and they still had mark- up stickers on them of $9,990 for "limited availability," but when I pointed out to the salesman there that it was kind of hard to argue "limited availability" when you had seven unsold cars on the lot, he admitted that they probably wouldn't argue much about mark- up anymore. Give GM six months or so to get production fully up to speed and I figure the Chevy dealers will probably quit gouging us on the Camaro as well.

I sat in a Challenger while I was there just to get an impression of the two back- to- back. It's got a lot more room inside, but it's also a much bigger car. I also like the Camaro's interior a lot better. I know it's either "love it or hate it" for most folks with the Camaro interior, but at least it's unique to just the Camaro. The Challenger interior is just "generic Chrysler Corporation" and is really boring. The instrumentation on the Camaro was a lot cooler, IMO.

I didn't drive either car, but I did hear the engines fire up. I think the Camaro's idle is meaner, FWIW.

Anyway, I can confirm that there is at least one Camaro SS on the ground in the Commonwealth at Hatfield Chevy in Lexington. They'll probably have it on the showroom floor tomorrow, if not later tonight.

I live in lexington and am waiting for a call from both Rod Hatfield Chevy and Thoroughbred. They have both said they will call me as soon as one comes in and if I don't get a call tomorrow I'll drive over there after work. Rod Hatfield and suck a big one if they think I'm paying msrp+10k. I'll hold out for thoroughbred or go to one of the msrp or lower dealers in kentucky. I believe there is one in somerset and one in louisville.

Here's the lousy pics I took with my cellphone:

Just trying to avoid one of these:

The color looks a lot better in person. Like I said, I've got a cheap cellphone camera. The lighting was also pretty bad.

I was told at Thoroughbred Chevy that they were expecting an ABM 2SS customer car in time for the March 6 unveiling. The guy I was talking to also told me during the discussion about processing and ordering that there would be a "$3,000 surcharge because of limited availability" and that "all" Chevy dealers were doing it.

I'm actually kind of glad I can't buy one right now. I appreciate the idea of charging what the market will bear, but don't lie about it. Just admit that you're greedy bastards who have a hot product and have no scruples about taking extra money from people stupid or impatient enough to pay it.

That's just dealers being dealers. I'm sure once you walk in with your money ready they will be willing to negotiate price. Especially since there are a few, reasonably distanced dealers asking MSRP (or lower) as listed in the thread in the pricing forum.

Here they are just in case other Kentuckians are interested. I'm sure there are other dealers that are doing the same that aren't listed in that thread.

Visited Rod Hatfield today...finally got to sit in an SS. I must say I really like the seats! Outward visibility may be a problem, especially for those who don't pay very close attention when changing lanes. Headroom will be an issue for those much over 5'10"...another guy there who was sitting in one for the first time (probably 6'1"-6'2") was hitting his head while sitting in the seat (car had sunroof). All-in-all, I liked it very much...sure doesn't help me having to wait at least another 5-6 weeks on mine to get here.

If you are in the market and don't mind to pay over sticker and want to be the first to buy a camaro in lexington I suggest you give Matt Reese a call over at Rod Hatfield. Matt is a young guy working hard to make things happen for a lucky buyer, you can reach him at (859)-299-2772...just tell him you were referred to him from Camaro5.com.

I was the second person to order a Camaro from Kerry Chevrolet in Alexandria Ky. They called me to come see the guy who ordered his first on April 20th. It was awesome. He ordered his 3weeks before me. Maybe mine will be coming soon.

There seems to be a black SS/RS in London. How does London get one before Lousiville??? (no offense to small towns but I would guess the largest dealers get the cars first)

They could have been ordered at a large dealer in another state and driven or shipped back to KY...I ordered in November 08' from my small town dealer, and It'll likely be June before I get mine.

I have known Mike at Music Carter Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Cadillac
personally for over 25 years he is top notch. If he still has any allocations left you will get a fair deal from him at MSRP. Just tell him the guy with his 5th Camaro allocation sent you.

Much better pics than mine. LOL. Glad to see that they decided to leave the ground effects kit off of it while it sits in the showroom.
