Many high-performance engines are designed to operate with a high maximum compression, and thus demand fuels of higher octane. A common misconception is that power output or fuel efficiency can be improved by burning fuel of higher octane than that specified by the engine manufacturer. The power output of an engine depends in part on the energy density of the fuel being burnt. Fuels of different octane ratings may have similar densities, but because switching to a higher octane fuel does not add more hydrocarbon content or oxygen, the engine cannot develop more power.

No, our ECU will adjust timing based on what octane you run. It monitors spark knock and adjusts accordingly. Its not going to give you more power to run higher octane but it does make a bit of a difference in the throttle response. I personally run 87 octane though.

True but the engine does change the timing when running higher octane.

Always have put Premium in my beast, always will no matter what people say

. Its a preference and i personally do think it runs smoother when putting premium in instead of regular.

Ive had 87 in my car for ages. No problems. However I did notice a slight power bump (might have been all in my head though) when I did my second tank of 91.

87 octane only in my LS and it does 19-22 city 28-33 Highway.
I had a problem last year with the winter gas formula. Car hesitated and backfired.
Did a fuse pull and it brought this car to life.
Don't believe what the naysayers tell you on this forum about it not working on the V6. IT Works on ALL Cars.

lol this topic keeps coming up every month. The way I look at it is the car runs awesome on either. And the reason many aren't seeing any changes with the (91-93) is because of 2 reasons. Alot of the fuel these days has more than 10% ethanol in it which lowers MPG on non E85 cars. Or the fuel is being hosed to be actually lower than promoted. These are some of the tricks the Petro companies are using to save with the high gas demand and cost. I know this how? I have worked with Aircraft and ground fuel operators for the Army! And the test don't lie.
