... but it only looses value if you plan on selling it later, right? if you buy a ZL1, it should be a keeper! with that being said, you should paint it any color you like. |

Originality. Its a proven fact that people will always pay more for originality. No matter how you slice it, when you try to sell your ZL1 10 years down the road and it is painted Bright Blue Purple Metallic, they will be able to run the trim codes and see it was originally Victory Red. You can bet everytime you are going to have to come WAY down on your selling price when all you would of had to do is keep the car original. Just my two cents but I wish others would chime on this logic and I would like to hear professionals on this advice as well. It might make me wanna paint mine ABM after all. Its not a money issue with me at all. Its a "Left the factory" this way issue with me when it comes to my ZL1.

Everybody buying ZL1's to profit on collector status are retarded.
Its not a limited production car, and there will be way too many produced to be "rare". Also you would have to wait approximately 30 years, and hope people actually care about gas powered cars then. There's more to the current muscle car value movement than time and rarity. The people involved are nostalgic about the era of these cars. As time passes,so do these people. New generations are far more apt to collect Hondas and Acuras than Fords and Chevies. Buy a ZL1 for the right reasons..to enjoy the performance of the car. When you are done with it, sell it. You will lose money because you will sell it for far less than new value, but it will be ok, because that is how it works. That is how it ALLWAYS works. How many original ZL1 owners from 69 still have thier ZL1's...one. So the odds of keeping the car long enough even to just break even is a virtual impossiblity. If you want a different color, paint it. Do a good job and don't worry about devaluing it, you can't devalue it any more than another paint job costs.... |

In my years of collector car hunting/buying/selling, the purple with blue flamed $12K paint job is passed over more times than not for a plain jane dark metallic blue FACTORY paint job nearly every time. It all depends on the end buyer. Every serious car collector will know what came stock. The rock factory stock blank canvas, as it were, is more commonly sought after than any other as far as collectors go. It's just how it is. That hasn't changed in my experience in over 25 years. You must assume every mod will shrink your potential buyer pool. For the purist, anything other than factory stock is a sin. You have extremes. Remember too, what's tasteful to you now, may not be to others, or even relevant or desired 20 years from now (think thick shag carpet wall mods in those vans of the 70s). But some mods aren't as detrimental as others. For example, if you put on a cat back, but sell the car with the original exhaust so the new owner could choose to put it back on if they wanted, then no real original value points lost. Or if it's a popular mod, like the custom floor mats or rearview mirror camera (on cars that didn't come with it) it may not deduct much overall. But flare out the rear fenders for huge slicks and weld on fins....there may be 50 people in the world looking for that and if you find one, great, but you're likely going to be driving around a long time with the "For Sale" sign in your window. Originality matters most in collector land. But if you don't care, then mod away to your liking. It's your canvas. That's my take on it from my own experiences. Yours may differ.

The rear diffuser heat shields are bright metal in these most recent pictures, not flat black as on the red show circuit car. I hope they powder coat them black, it makes the tailpanel blend in better with the exhaust pipes I think. I am going for the dark contrasting look for mine, as in an IBM with 10 spokes and stripe without anything brightly polished. The bright metal rear diffuser heat shield would stand out and call attention to that area. The bright metal dual/dual exhaust speaks out loud and clear enough visually without any unnecessary attention being called to the tail. Just my .02

Factory Rare w/ heritage that where I live
The ZL1 is tempting for the car not the collectability I like my 02 b4c 1 0f 6 ... now if there is a rarer edition of a ZL1 I am a sucker for it. That's how I dove on an ABM when they discontinued the color but the 2010 isn't rare but I saw it as I see the ZL1 as I bought the 2010 because of the CAR L

That said, I'm not buying mine as an investment but the ZL1 has more chance of being worth something than a lot of cars for sale right now - especially if they don't make a 6th gen version. |

huh?..ok maybe retarded was a little harsh, but its the truth. People who think they are buying a 69 ZL1 type investment are in for a harsh reality. Just as Shelby's decrease in value every year so will ZL1. That collector car ship has sailed...around 1971 to be exact. These cars will not appreciate.. in most of our lifetimes at least.. |

So far, we've only seen the [what I assume are] unfinished, shiny heat shields on Prototype/Test cars....I hope it stays that way.... |

I dont know about all that--I bought mine for me...not for the next guy. I am sure there are plenty of bone stock 2010's in garages all around the nation. Let those guys sell on Barret Jackson in 2040. I hope to burn the wheels off this thing till I die...or it dies.
