Let's Talk About Radar Detectors a Moment,...
Hi everyone,...
I Received a Call From My Dealership Today telling me that my 2SS will be ready to be picked up in about 3 weeks and I'm pretty damn excited I can't Imagine what you guys went through when it was finally your day to make the drive to pick up your Camaro but I look forward to that day very soon . Anyway,... Currently I use a Whistler 1745 Radar Detector, It's about 3 or 4 Years old, So far from what I can tell it seems to pick up and has detected the Radar when ever I have needed it to. It's No Where Near Top Of The Line but since I'm getting a new car, One that I might be more tempted to speed more in I was thinking that I might want a better piece of insurance. And yes,.. I do understand that even though i own a Radar Detector it Does Not Guarantee me from being safe from getting speeding tickets because it is only a Radar Detector and Not a Cop Detector as I have had to explain to some people that have been in my truck in the past as cops have passed me. But what are some of the Better Radar Detectors that are out there on the Market Today that do more than just detect the Frequency Band like mine does? I know i can search google for Radar Detectors but there are 100's of them and I also wanted to see what people here might actually be using and are happy with. If you own a Radar Detector which one do you own? Thanks for your Suggestions & Help. Black LS3 A.K.A. Jim

Passport 8500 X50 is a good buy..
if you can anti up the Passport 9500ix, SOLO S2 Cordless, RedLine, and the Passport 9500ci if you want the ultimate. Others like the Valentine( Another Very good choice). I havnt had the chance to try one out, but I have friends that rave about it. I myself own an 8500 X50 It's affordable, and detects radar traps miles down the road.

Recommend for the V1 - I've had one since 2000. When you get a bleep, you'd best pay attention.
I got the Passport 8500 for the wife, and it seems to be more chatty to me, and doesn't have the directional arrows that the V1 does, which I find useful. HannoverFist |

v1 is the only radar to get. if you get another brand you are wasting your money.

Actually I dont have it installed in the camaro, yet. I just bought another V1 and slim concealed display.
Ill mount the V1 to the rear view mirror, run the wires along the headliner, down the A pillar, select a spot for the display, run the remote mute wire to the turn signal stalk. Ill post pictures when I do my install for sure. |

Wow Guys,.. That Valentine 1 Radar Detector Costs between $450-$500 eh?
That Sounds like a Kick Ass Detector and it looks like it has a few extra Ad-On Accessories that you can buy to go along with it also. When it says that You'll Never need to buy another Detector again because of it's Upgradeability. Do you have to Pay for those Upgrades after a Certain amount of time? and if you do then in a sense you are buying another Detector "In a Sense" in order to Update or Upgrade the one you already have. Kind of like my Garmin GPS, When i bought it,.. or I should say before I bought it all i read when that you could get updates for it off of the internet and how easy it was to update, I knew that you could "Buy Maps" for other Countries but what I didnt know was that after 1 Year you needed to Pay $65 Bucks to get More Updates to your own Country. I kind of thought that it was like a Hardware device or something and all you did was Logon and Update it from Garmin.com when ever it needed updating. Hell I bought my GPS Unit 2 Years ago and the Chevy Dealership where I bought my 2SS is'nt even on the Damn GPS LOL... . Pulling in to the Dealership I was Driving Off-Road hehe,... Anyway,.. What kind of Update and Upgrades are they that you get for that Valentine 1 after the first Year or Two? Do you have to pay for them?

If it doesn't have GPS to filter out the false detects you will be missing out on the best part of a detector. They also come with a red light camera database.
