Stupid things said by dealers about the ZL1

I'll start with my trip today to give my dealership my order info on my A10 ZL1 so it is in the system when GM starts to pick them up. Well they have a black one on the showroom floor and as I was taking some pics a sales representative comes over and tells the young man in the drivers seat that there is a ZL1 Fifty anniversary edition. I had to correct him by letting him know that all 2017s are fifty year Camaros and that there is a special edition camaro but not on the ZL1. Then he wants the guy to open the hood so he could see the motor. He has never seen it but the car has been there almost a week and he could have looked at any time. Well he goes on to tell me that it looks like the engine out of the Z06 and I told him it is. Then he tells me it was detuned because it's in the Camaro. I said nooo it's got the same hp. He says 650 and I say yes 650. It cracks me up how little 90% sales reps know about the cars that they sell. So let's hear some of the other tails that you have heard.

My dealer sat me in a car to play with the NPP exhaust so I had some idea how it worked. After fiddling with various settings, he gives up. I notice the window sticker for the car. Sure enough, NPP exhaust not a listed option. I mention this to dealer. He looks, frowns, and says the window sticker isn't always accurate, and points out that the sticker says the car has a manual transmission when it's an automatic. (Auto trans is under options.) I cut my losses at that point and go home, upset I'm paying commission to a guy that can't read a window sticker.

To the mods. I guess I dint make this clear enough. I just wanted stories on the ZL1 that's why I put it in the ZL1 section. Lol. I'm assuming that's why it got moved.

I never talk to salesman when I go into a dealership, there's just too much turnover in the industry and usually 75% of them have been there less than a year. I usually go straight to the sales managers office and ask for the salesman that has the highest sales on the model I'm interested in, And if they have a Camaro/vette specialist. That really works well, you don't get any of this crap , the good ones when they don't know, say "they don't know"…

You can find them if you look. Usually the salesman the come up to you on the floor, are the ones that are brand-new, because they're not in their office working with past customers, because they're new and they don't have that yet.

Gotcha. Would have been clearer in the title.

Moved it back - but you'd get a whole wide range of crazy stories from the SS and LT people, too!

This is great advice.

And it's *slightly* humbling to remember that point about new salespeople...very few of them are lifers. Those that are...have to contend with a rapidly changing, and option-shifting lineup of 20 vehicles or more.

And we want them all to be well-versed on the intimate details about one of their lowest-volume sellers?

Most dealers ARE idiots (that's why we have the emoji for it)...but it's not always their fault.

EDIT: OH! And regarding the hp figure....for the longest time, Chevy quoted their 'estimated 640hp 640tq' figure. In some circles, that has set in hard and fast. :( I just read a new article (within the week) that quoted it as being 640...

How about stupid things customers say?

"I love my challenger I would never trade it in. I have the 5.7 Hemi with an air intake and chip in it, it makes 500 horsepower"

Yup!! There's that, too!

I sat next to (one table over) from a guy that was complaining the convertible car was heavier....because they cut the roof off.

No one in the DFW has a ZL1. No one has gotten them and all of the incoming units are sold. This was told to me by Ray Huffines in Plano. I had just test drove the car the previous week at Reliable.

I got mine in the DFW area almost 3 weeks ago. My salesman knew everything about the car.

Here's a good one. The dealer told me the ZL1 was getting the Corvette LT4 engine and a brand new 10 speed automatic transmission co-developed with Ford. They estimated the car was going to have 640 hp and was going to be available in the fall of this year.

Oh wait... that was GM.....

: pound:

Those guys are hilarious!

And and then there was the guy, at the plant. He says don't wait for greeen cuz they aren't making it...ROFL

Haha, messed up but I got a good laugh out of it! Dang 'ol guy at the plant probably knows more than anyone.

Mine said, oh yeah definitely get the pdr. It has the camera in the bumper like the vette does so you can be careful pulling into parking spots......

I just kept my mouth shut. Not worth the effort.
