$600...are you kidding me?

So I got tired of putting off installing my Pfadt spings and sways myself and decided I'd just have it done. Called the local speed shop that has done work for me before and they quoted me $600. It seems most shadetree mechs. here are saying it's a 4 hour job at most so I am assuming a professional with all the tools handy should be able to do the job in 3.5 hours at most. Am I crazy for thinking their quote was way to high?

I was told 5.7 hours at $100 per hour by my local dealer.

Typically most places charge around 4 hours for springs and about 1 hour for sways.

For example we charge 4.5 to do both since there is some overlap on the front suspension, at our shop rate of 75 per hour.

This is merely just mentioned as a benchmark, and not what everyone should or could charge.

Guys you can do it your self i did my coilovers and that was not hard.

if $600 included the alignment...I guess it wouldn't be that bad. They are probably over-estimating it assuming it's the first Camaro suspension they are working on. I'd say it's roughly a 4hr job + alignment (alignment should be done after a few miles have been put on it incase the springs settle a bit).

Very easy install and it took me about 4 hours in my garage with a jack and hand tools. I got same quote and decided to take it on myself and was very simple and straight forward.

To the OP-$600 is way high. Try another shop.

Yea...I will take the time to do it myself. It's not about the know how as much as having the extra time. It's like my employer wants me to work, my wife wants me to be a husband, and my kids want me to be a dad or something....don't they understand this is a Camaro we're talking about?

most good shops go with a flat rate system of work. I believe the front and rear springs would be about a 5 hour job in the flat rate guide, plus the alignment will put you right in the 600 range at most bigger shops. While i'm sure you can find some that are a bit less, and some that are more, it's not out of line to give you that price.

I just didmy pfadt springs and balance bar in 4hrs with hand and air tools in my driveway. Its quite easy and worth saving the money.
