Swapping ECM for tuning

What do you guys think about buying a seperate ECM and using that for a custom tune, and keeping the original, well original, in case the warranty is ever needed

I really want some long tubes and the tune only vararam but I really dont want to void my warranty

Thoughts?

just have your tuner save the stock tune. This way if there ever is an issue he can just flash it back to stock.....

Yup, get another PCM. The techs can tell if yours has been flashed and bye-bye warranty.

Thanks dragon, so you think my plan will work? I mean, is there anything that would be obvious if I one day reinstalled the OG ECM? Would they be able to tell it was disconnected and reconnected?

Warranty can't be legally voided if you remove it to clean your engine bay for that car show, can it?

EDIT:
Try to only use the flashed PCM when you plan on running the car hard. If you are heavily modded, you will need to keep the flashed PCM at all times to run properly.

This is exactly what I did with my GMC...I bought a second set of modules (PCM/TCM) and had them tuned. The stock modules are in a box in the garage should I require warranty service. However, I truly believe that if the Techs dig deep enough, they will be able to tell that the modules have been swapped. Something I've read about timelines in the programming.

Does the LS3 M6 need both PCM/TCM??

The TCM is for the auto transmission in the trucks...M6 shouldn't have one. I'm not sure about the L99s, though...

If you need an ECM, I have a spare I was planning on using, but then decided I will get a cam soon, so warranty will be gone anyways. Let me know if interested. It's for a SS M6.

Some ecus are flashed multiple times from the factory, even 5-6 or even ten times. Just an FYI. This ensures optimum qc.
