Camaro Top Speed
I was thinking today, and while looking around at the different engine choices, a thought popped up into my head. What will the Camaro's top speed and 0-60 time be like? In the LS2 powered Corvette, you can get 186 mph, and a 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds. (maybe quicker if you really nail it) with the added weight of a Camaro, I'm thinking that you can get up and over 180 mph (180-185) and a 0-60 time of 4.5. Not bad if you ask me. That is also a tad bit better than the HEMI 6.2 liter V8, which powers the Challenger up to 174 mph, and a 0-60 time of 4.5. Just throwing this out there, tell me what you think.

Its not just weight, its aerodynamics. The Vette simpply moves through the air better than the Camaro will.
However, if we have made any impression on GM we will get a 430hp 6.2L V8 to play with. If we are really good and eat all our vegetables we might get a 550hp s/c V8. If so Im sure that is neighborhood the Camaro will be trolling through. |

At those speeds, aerodynamic drag is pretty much the only factor for top speed. Even the tiniest difference in aerodynamics will make a big difference in top speed at that level.
I'd guess that the Camaro's top speed will be electronically limited before 186. They won't ship it able to exceed the speed rating of whatever tires come on it, though maybe uplevel Camaros will come with high-rated tires.

predicting 4.3-4.5 0-60 top speed of 160 (electronicly limited) and 1/4 time in the mid to low 12's on street tires and possibly high 11's on slicks. that's for the LS3. Now if we get a 550 hp version I'm going to say 4.0-4.3 0-60 and a mid 11 sec 1/4 run. as for the electronicly limited top speed I'd say it'd be the same if not a little lighter. All those times are at sea level and with a manual. now I predict motortrend to be a few tenths off on everything I've stated because they don't beat the cars like they should be to perform the best they can.

Some expect the V6 to be a 160mph car, and the base V8 to be capable of 175+.
I agree with those people. Whether they're speed limited is a different story. |

Well, that ought to be enough to get me to work on time.

I'd bet anything that the V6 has a speed limiter on it like the V8. I personally don't think they'll let it go over 120.

I agree a speed limiter will be used but I'd say it's closer to 150-160.
