Where should I mount my detector?
The rule of thumb for RADAR is the higher the better, but for LASER the lower the better. Laser is more difficult to detect than radar. Therefore it is recommended to mount the detector lower on the windshield of most vehicles. With that said, as far as positioning, you want to give the detector a clear view of the road both front and rear. Avoid placing behind the tinting at the top of most windows, behind parking stickers, wiper blades, or anything similar that will obstruct the detector's window or lens.
What it says about lasers makes sense but since the laser detection is based on a hit and is the speed of light all it does is let you know you got a ticket and to pull over haha.

If you get hit by a laser yeah, you're obviously already gonna be gunned down.

But there are chances that you can pick up a laser SCATTER signal. These are very very rare, but when they DO happen, 9/10 times its a false-positive (like being in proxy to an airport or something).

I did pick up a laser scatter alert on the highway once. I never saw the LEO though, so that probably was another false-p.

Which detector do you guys think is better? The V1 or the Escort Max.

Both are damn good.

But the V1 has patented arrows that will show you the direction.

I hear V1 owners don't like using other detectors afterwords because they like the arrows so much.

When I had my Max 2, it was mounted under the mirror. I hear wireless aren't the best setups due to loss of signal when the batteries get weak. Why not do a wiretap into your mirror and use a blendmount? No wires and no obstruction of view.

From the experts @ guysoflidar "Using the Windshield Mount, mount your (detector) level, and high enough on your front windshield to provide a clear view of the road from the front and rear."

Here is my Escort 9500CI setup with front/rear shifters and radar mounted behind the front bumper:

I hear nothing but great things about both the V1 and the max but if I had a choice it would be the max because of the GPS capabilities it comes with that the Valentine 1 doesn't have. I personally don't care what direction its coming from, if it beeps I slow the F down...lol

I had a blendmount in my last car with an escort 9500ix. Does the blendmount work on the 13's and up with the "frameless" mirror?

It works but will not power on/off with ignition but on my Max it had an auto shut off mode with no activity. Just had to power it on when I got in the car

+1 love the GPS memory feature that remembers and blocks all false alarms from stores etc etc. just cruise around and after 2-3 times it records gps locations of all the false alarms. Now when it goes off its the real deal so slow down!
