Doesn't the owner's manual illustrate how to do this? Hmm, I guess not...I don't have my car so can't give pictures:
o buy oil filter o buy oil - manual has amount needed & type o buy oil funnel & oil filter wrench & oil pan & ramps (to get under car) o warm up car, drive on ramps (use help) o let car cool 10 minutes and find oil drain plug; open hood and open oil cap (I pull out the oil dipstick also) o look up torque specs on drain plug when you need to retighten - buy torque wrench o drain oil into oil pan o remove oil filter and let oil drip into pan o open new oil filter and wet rubber ring with fresh oil o tighten new oil filter - read how many turns past tight - HAND Tighten ONLY! o replace oil pan plug - torque and don't over tighten! o using oil funnel, fill engine with recommended amount of oil o put oil dipstick back, put oil cap cover back o warm up car, let coil check dipstick - add oil if needed o drive off ramps, slowly, mark the change in your maintenance section of the manual o dispose of oil at recycle location Ok, feel free to add/modify, but keep flames to a minimum. This is off the cuff as I do this without thinking on my own vehicles. Good luck! Oh, here are some details, but not specific to the Camaro: http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/how...8/article.html Michael J.

on the v6 cars you want to remove the filter first because it is located on the top side of the engine(cartrige style filter) and when you remove the filter all the oil in the filter housing will be able to drain into the oil pan.
then drain all the oil and replace your filter

i've always found it easier to just pay someone to do it. I'm sure it's not rocket science. I have and do change break pads and I've changes rotors a couple times.
I've never changed oil. I was looking for non manual advice. Someone said to run the car for 20 min, then lift the car so the drain on the pain is at the lowest point, I thought that was quality advice. Taking the filter out first was a good nugget too. Quote:
Someone also mentioned 2 oil filter changes per oil change??? |

Don't have to replace the oil plug, but some plugs have crush washers on them (don't have the Camaro so can't tell you, yet) and those should be replaced. 2 oil filters changes per oil change? Not sure what that means. I've heard people say 1 oil filter per 2 oil changes, but I prefer to change the filter EVERY oil change. It can't hurt
I even taught my girlfriend to change her oil on her Tacoma. She's proud of herself for that, and so I am

I would remove the drain plug first, then while the oil is draining for a few minutes or more remove the filter. This way there is less oil to drip from the filter cartridge when taken it out. ...... No big deal I know, just the way I would do it. Also leave the drain plug out as long as you can,to get more of the old oil out. I leave it drain for at least 1/2 hour. You may not have the time to do that most people don't. |

the "2 filter / oil change" thing he meant was that some people don't change the filter every oil change (2 oil changes per filter). Personally i change mine out every time. the filter itself will contain a fair amount of used / dirty oil when you take it off...if you don't change it every time...all that crap goes right back in with the new oil. good luck. we all had to learn at some point!
