Looks like the Cruze SS may become a reality. A Coupe Cruze SS would sell very good IMO. GM needs to build a sporty version, or lose the the market segment that the Cobalt gained.
the only problem is, who is supposed to design/build said cruze ss?? there's no more performance division.

Who built the Camaro SS? The V-coupe? Who will build the next Corvettes, and the Z28?

The performance division may not be around anymore...but the people who made it up certainly aren't gone...GM performance is far from dead.

The CTC-V and the Z28 had their high performance engineering work pretty much done before the group was disbanded. I don't think the Corvette is done by them (I think the ZR1 was though), and the Camaro was largely engineered by Holden. The Cruze is a bit different since there isn't a specific performance division to create an SS and GM is scaling back the usage of the badge.

But speaking of the potential Cruze SS, I'd like to see it with not just competitive performance to cars like the Speed3 but utterly dominant. Screw the 2.0L ecotec and step up to a turbo V6 or a NA V8. Make it an OMGWTFBBQ crazy machine. I don't care what sort of voodoo magic they'd have to pull to do it. I figure they should either go big or go home. It would be a car with limited appeal anyway, so why not make it the most appealing to that limited crowd? If they want FWD performance (for what ever misguided reason) then give them the absolute best performance in that segment without any possible room for questioning. Make the others look like they brought a knife to a nuke fight. Yeah, a nuke fight, not just a gun fight. That is what an SS should be.

Yes, there have been MANY fwd v8s. Monte Carlo SS and Impala SS come to mind instantly.

Also, who says it needs to be FWD? AWD V8 anyone?
And don't worry ... it'll fit. This is the engine bay of an HHR:

anyway, I should reiterate that what I posted is what I would like to see, not what is likely to be seen.

see the cobalt SS was a great car. better then most SS models out there. and I feel that if they did the SS badging on anything it should be done like the cobalt was. but that's more money lol. give me that turbo cobalt SS for my week day driver and the camaro Z28 for my friday night/weekend car. . now imagine if they bumped up the power on that cobalt to 304 (v-6 camaro power) would it have caught our SS on the ring? maybe, more then likely closer but probably not. bump it up to 350hp it would have been either the same time or better after the team was done tuning the suspension.

pretty much what I'm saying is bring back meaning to the SS badge like the cobalt did.
