2014 hill assist

Hello Camaro comrades,

I miss driving manual and am planning on either trading for a used model or custom ordering a new one in late spring. I know there has been some unhappiness with the 2013's hill assist. Can any of the 2014 manual owner chime in on how their experience has been? I searched the forums/Google and haven't found any commentary thus far.

Appreciated!

I don't believe that it's been tweaked for 2014, but I'll tell you it did suck on my 2013 the first day I took delivery. A couple of days later I got used to it. You just have to give it a little more gas when you're on hills in order to break free of the brakes.

The hill assist is the #1 biggest gripe about my camaro. It sucks plain and simple. Id test drive one so you can see what its like. If you need the assist, you cannot drive a manual properly and you shouldnt drive one. I dont know what gm is thinking with the stupid assist feature. Id do anything to be able to turn it off.

You can turn it off, but it requires a little DIY

A few bucks and a little time, but easy peasy.

You shouldnt have to pay $80 to override this feature. It should be in the settings where you can choose to have it on or off. For those not aware, you can disable the feature with a new yaw sensor out of an auto.

I like it when I'm lazy and dislike it when I don't want it. My hill assist has only been activated about three times while driving my car, but I only have 750 miles on it and I usually pace traffic lights .

BTW, you can have the car move without applying throttle when hill assist is active. The brakes will grab slightly then let go, or they did for me the one time I tested it.

Some ppl like it other people hate it. I don't think you'll know for sure until you test drive it. I don't think it's that bad. When not really necessary it doesn't really get in MY way

I'm glad I don't have it... But if I did, I'd sure pay to disable it. I've read a lot of complaints about it on here. Skip-shift was enough for me. I ditched that the first week I got my SS.

I was thinking about this the other day because i would really like to have some of the features the 2014 has. Except the tail lights, but they are honestly somewhat growing on me.

From my driving style, I think the hill assist will be almost non existent because before I even take off, I give it gas to rev it to about 1500 or 2k rpms so i can just ease off the clutch and get a nice start... It's hard to explain, but if you saw how i drove you'd understand lol.

Or you could just pre-purhcase all of your mods before you take your 2014 and then soon as you buy the car drive your car to a shop have them install and tune your car and when you're getting it tuned to remove the hill assist and the skip shift and you'll be golden like pony boy.

Hit the reset button on the end of turn signal lever when it engages and displays on the DIC, it will turn off hill assist for that moment and you can go about your day.

I tried that on my '13 and it only clears it from the DIC, doesn't actually do anything
