IMHO, it is not. The GTO was not really in the same class as the Mustang, although I believe the performance numbers were similar.

A friend of mine who is a die-hard Ford fan just bought a GTO, because it is a faster car.

gto would beat a mustang. i dont think anyone really doubts the camaro being able to beat the mustang. the mustang is a very underpowered car. the camaro already has the lead and its not even out yet. the main race i would want to see id a mustang and a challanger. camaro already has 1st place. now we just determine 2nd place.

The mags have all been comparing the Challenger to the Camaro, never yet have I seen one mention the Mustang...even thought the Mustang can ACTUALLY be tested, and the Camaro isn't out yet. iow, they DO seem to be comparing to the King...and not each other. All Hail Camaro! |

on numbers alone, the G8 GT either wins or ties the Challenger... and I can pretty much guarantee you that a Camaro will be the winner in a G8 vs. Camaro race... so maybe a G8 GXP vs. Challenger SRT8 vs. Shelby GT500 race is in order

lol, no i ment that they more or less already had the g8 and the challenger go at it and was about equal. the g8 had the l76 in it i beleive tho. long story short only a rocket car can win a camaro. and prolly every italian car out there. and majority of german cars, and some asian ones, and a russian or too... jk

Yes, the mustang will be improved, but the improvement is a bit cosmetic, an addition of about 50 ponies and likely an independent rear suspension. The Camaro will still spank the Mustang. Don't get me wrong, I'll test drive a new one so I have something to compare the Camaro to, but it's not gonna' be as cool as the Camaro, I can tell you right now! The GTO vs. Mustang, however will be a close match up (LS1 of course). The GTO weighs in @ 3725, while the Mustang is a little lighter @ 3560. The GTO has 350 horses and the mustang, 300. The GTO has 365 tq. and the Mustang has 320. The power to weight ratio for the GTO is 10.642 lbs per single horse power, and the Mustang is 11.866. One would think the GTO will likely overtake the Mustang with the spare 1.224 lbs of power/weight, but only in the 0-100 mph race. 0-60, the GTO comes in at 5.3 seconds, the Mustang at 4.9. The GTO comes in at 12.9 sec. in the 0-100mph race, and the Mustang at 13.2. The 1/4 mile, the GTO comes in at 13.8 seconds and the Mustang at 13.5 seconds. Pretty much neck and neck. Go to this sight for the specs on both.
