The car is registered in Arizona with no smog check and 5-year sticker. Should I ditch the cats? or keep them on what are the pros and cons thanks

I Would ditch them myself - nothing like a breathing easier V8 engine !!

I didn’t head the warnings of others and paid the price. All that said…there are some who have gotten them to work. Had I had a h-pipe instead of an x-pipe…I may not have taken out my engine. For what its worth, mine were right at the end of my long tube headers. Perhaps mounted further downstream, they may have lasted. Not sure. Problem is that the OEM’s put a lot of testing and research into where they place the cats. A luxury most of us don’t have.

I hate the smell of running without cats…but they don’t hold up to boost well.

Ok I am gonna gut them, does it need to be tuned after you gut them? And is the smell that bad? and the engine runs cooler right

Personally, I think the smell is great, as long as you aren't running abnormally rich A/F ratio at idle.

It shouldn't have any effect on engine operating temp...unless they are currently plugged.

I wouldn't think a re-tune would be necessary, as it's not a huge difference in airflow on the intake side.

I am running 9 PSI and I have boost activated cutouts right behind the cats. And I am running ARH headers and high-flow cats. What I have read is that ARH stuff is better than most other cats.

Hmmm 9 psi. I agree with the others, if you haven't done it already then gut them. My personal experience was that once I progressed past 7 psi the cat issues began. How are you able to keep AZ plates while living in CA. Seems to me the environmental rules in CA are very restrictive, but if you feel there will be no repercussion then gut away!

I am gonna get under the car and look thru the cutouts to see what shape they are in. The car only has 50k miles but Maggie is on it for 40K miles. And I have a ranch in Arizona and no smog in the county plus 5-year registration for 200$ every 5 years sure beats Cali plus the car won't pass in Cali. The car is getting aFe coilovers and the whole suspension replaced right now. Should have it back this week. I will report back my findings
