I can't recall the exact price I paid, but I got it from the local GM dealer for hair less than $60 with tax at the time.

It's not always true, but mostly GM does one of two things when they're getting ready to drop a part from the system...either raise the price exponentially, or simply it just doesn't appear anymore in the system as a good part number- without warning, most of the time.

So I have this feeling...but any sudden uptick in sales of a certain part also can trigger a new order for supply as well. They did that with an old 80s G-body part a few years ago. An emblem was getting ready to be discontinued and myself and a couple others bought a slew of them, and lo and behold if they didn't discontinue them for another 6 months or so. Eventually they did, but still.

I'd get one even if you don't need it right away if you plan on keeping your car any length of time. And again, I guarantee you that there will be no issues in selling it later if you ever had to.

I changed this part out in April. It has very poorly designed mounting points, they look brittle.

Yeah, that's kind of been the consensus. That's why I say to buy a spare while they're still available and still "relatively" inexpensive. You may want to modify it to be stronger when repairing your broken one, then you can store that back for the next time you need it. Not ideal, but at least you'll have options.

You can say "super glue". It's not a woke pronoun.

I personally do not know. It depends on the plastic. Both super glue and gorilla glue (polyurethane) do not like to work well with polypropylene or polyethylene plastic.

Which I'm not sure of what kind of plastic the trim piece is, actually. There may be a PP, PE or HDPE molded on the back of it somewhere. If so, then super glue or gorilla glue won't be the ticket. I'd have to dig it out and look but I'm too lazy to go out to the shop at the moment.

Methylacrylate adhesive is best for PP and PE/HDPE types of plastic. But it's a tad pricey. MMA500 is a methyl adhesive that supposedly is at the top of the list. But it's around 30 bucks just for the cartridge and needs an applicator.

I e been using a product called “Aron Alpha”. I’m not sure what category of glue it is, but so far I’ve been ok with plastics. I am going to take your advice and get another header panel.

I looked today when I was out in the shop today. It says ABS on the inside of the new trim piece. It is pretty stiff. So super glue or gorilla glue could work well on the ABS. As well as epoxy.
