Z/28 Windshield Replacement

The only negative from my weekend at Thunderhill, besides the heat, was a cracked windshield that happened on the drive up. I need to replace this and pinged my dealer's SM, just to make sure that the Z/28 windshield is not special (like the rear window). He just wrote me back:

GM called back and gave us two possible part numbers for the factory Z/28 glass. There is a design change that needs to be indentified. One part number has a bracket built onto the top of the windshield for the remote control door lock receiver. The second design does not have the additional bracket. The bracket would be at the top center of the glass. I've attached a picture to illustrate as best I can what they're describing. The bracket is # 13 in the picture.

Anyone heard of this before? I'm on the road and can't check my car to see which design it has. If anyone's curious enough to look, my VIN is 140 -- though proximity in VINs may not guarantee identical parts...

As alternative you can go also the weight saving route

The remote on the Z28 is up on the window. So you need the bracket.

In the US all the Z28s have the box by the mirror. Other countries may not have it there. I have looked at 3 so far and they have the box. A post awhile back I was wondering what it was for. The ZL1 does not have the bracket. That pic showing the glass is for the Camaro coupe and may cover other Camaros

Understood, and I'm pretty sure my car has the windshield that uses the bracket. I just can't confirm and order until I get home to visually confirm this.

My Service Manager is pretty sharp, and he states categorically that there are two different Z/28 windshields for cars sold in the USA. Since we only have a small handful of owners represented here, I'm just interested in how many were built using the other windshield...

If time is important. Then get the one with bracket, just do not use it. Also I would bet that the one with out the bracket is not able to get quick. I will bet all the Z28s made so far and yours has the box. You have A/C right ? I would say none of the non box Z28s have been built for the US.
