read this for a laugh

so i was out on friday doing noting so i thought i would stop by a pontiac dealer to look at a g8 and maybe drive one just for fun. so i am looking at one when a salesman comes up to, we start talking, he tells me how it is a great time to buy right now. i say yeah i know but i have a new camaro on order and i just wanted to look. he says oh i see, than he asks who makes the camaro?? i said what!! hes says there not common and wants to know who makes them. i said gm the company you work for, and they have been out of production for 6 years. i than walked away as he was still talking. and gm wonders why they have problems. wow i so dumb founded i could even spit out a bs remark. how do you know noting about the place you work??

i than went to the chevy dealer in town (not were mine is ordered) to feel them out and see what they knew. i asked the salesman what info he had on the car. he says come in and have a seat. i ask what there allotment is and how many they have sold. his answer was gm doesn't tell us how many we get and thinks they have two sold orders. he tells me we can spec one out and than talk to the manager about the time line for the car. so he says im sure you dont know much about this car so i will go through all of it with you. i tell him i have done alot of research on this car. he pulls up the car on auto book to get the pricing, i can see him as he is doing this, and he says oh i guess they havent released pricing yet, i say oh, are you guys selling for msrp or higher? he says msrp i say ok the manager walks by and he asks him to stop in, he does i ask if he has info on pricing, he says sure sits down and tells me the price for a base 2 ss is 43,500 i say really, thats msrp?? it sure is he says. i get up to leave and he says we can work on that number, i said i know you can msrp is like 34,000 with the destination charge, i have one ordered already, he says oh and walked away.

wow what a day i had with dumb gm guys. just thought some of you could use a good laugh. i know i did!!

And car companies wonder why people hate car salespeople. This is just ridiculous.

But, it does make me want to stop by the other local Chevy dealer and try the same experiment as you.

You should have said Honda just to see what he says...then tell him it's a variant of the Prius...that borrows parts from a Ferrari.

i wouldn't be laughing I'd be pissed, they just tried to get you for $10,500 that's a pretty considerable amount!!! and I bet they know exactly how much pricing is, they just "know" that the general public doesn't have any idea about pricing, and they probably hope people will look @ the srt8's price in comparison to what their delears are telling them about the camaro and say "hhhmmm that's not bad." that's ridiculous, they just out right lied to you, damn! glad I'm a member here!

You should send a copy of this story to GM, and show them, 'some' of the morons they're hiring to sell their product.

I also love testing salespersons, and see how much they really know about their procucts. I did the same thing, after I ordered my truck, I put a different dealership to the test...they quoted me the price way higher than what I paid ON THE ROAD.

Problem is most salespeople are like this nowadays. They don't "know" there cars like we do, its just a job to them. They go home at the end of the day and forget about cars. I bet wherever you go, not just GM dealers, and you would get the same responses.

Only 4 % of the 10,000 pre orders are purists.... 9600 units will hit the lots and the sales managers want anybody BUT a purist to buy it ...more money with less questions.

see this thread Jan 2 Canadian update .

Think this speaks to just one of the many problems that have existed in the industry for years. If you don't have any interest in the product your trying to sell, then why in F#@K are you wasting my time and yours being here? Practise this line "would you like fries with that" and go apply for a job at Mc D's.

I understand he wants to charge over MSRP, but dealerships should be shutdown for outright lying to their customers. Sad.
