Cruise control skipping Numbers

I found that sometimes my cruise control will skip a number, today it wouldn't go to 64 it would do 63 & 65 but not 64. Then it wouldn't do 79 it would go to 78 & then 80, i had to speed to 79 and then set it after that it would go to 79. Anybody else have this happen to them or something to this effect.

I've noticed it too, but it's really no big deal. The rare occasions when it happens I just cancel cruise control (turn it all the way off, not just hit the brakes) and reset and it corrects the problem.

I have the same thing happen, but I just contribute it to "rounding" to a whole number.

lol, mine did same til I realized it was the road. I tried it on a long flat stretch of road, no dips, hills,etc...just flat and was able to set it at any speed. even when I slowed down and resumed, I could see the reading go in correct increments

Question OMFG!

Do we need to inform GM so that they may issue a world-wide recall?

Mine runs 64 MPH no problem...

This is what happens when people try to make sense out of what their cars do. Cruise Control is computer controlled, right? Why is the computer skipping a number? It can get annoying if you enjoy Cruise Control and you use it a lot.

That is correct. Sometimes when we set the cruise you might between speeds say 63.5. Most cruise systems say that when you click up or down it is usually between 1 & 1.5 mph per click. I've been around the car business all my life, I've driven them all and it has been that way with almost every vehicle I've ever driven, GM, Ford, Honda, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Chrysler etc. It's not an exact science. Which is why I always tend stay 1 to 2 mph below where I know my local police tend to cut their "grace period" at.

Electronic gauges will do that. Always have, always will. I learned to to drive on my Grandfather's 1985 Eldorado with electronic gauges, and when you accelerated it always skipped numbers. It has alot to do with your rate of acceleration. Digital gauges will never cycle though every digit, even though while accelerating you do hit that specific speed.

It's a time correction algorithm in the software that converts the speed in analog, real time from the ground speed sensor (usually in the transmission) to a digital instant speed. Analog speedometers don't need that because the needle just sweeps right through from one mile per hour to two, three, 4, etc.... and as it sweeps it covers every incremental speed within one mph, from 1 to 1.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999 ^ x power

Graph it out as a limit function in calculus..... the line as it approaches 2 will never actually HIT the number two.

If digital speedometers didn't have that in the program you'd need a digital display that defines speed infinitely..... the whole interior would be one huge gigantic electronic speedometer

That's what I thought. That's why I didn't consider it a "problem".
