Oil leak on 2010

I have oil seeping out of my pan on my 2010, is this a regular occurrence? I do road course the car and have been given the meatball flag for it smoking excessively. I didn't know it was leaking at the time, but I believe that it is from this leak. I read somewhere that it could be that 8 qts of oil is too much. Please someone point me in the right direction

This is a known issue on the V8 cars. They will have to drop your sub frame in order to get to the pan for the repair. Since it appears you're out of warranty, your wallet will be a few pounds lighter after the fact.

There are many threads on this problem if you search the forum.

Here is just one.

My early '10 SS pan started leaking this past Summer. I had it repaired under warranty just
before my 5 year warranty was up. I heard it's a $2,000.00+ repair job if out of pocket.

It's been brought to the dealership 2 times already, July 2013 and a week ago for the same problem, under warranty, the car won't be 5 years old yet until February 2010 and it doesn't have 50,000 miles on it yet so it should be covered under the power train warranty, so far the dealer doesn't want to fix it, and says it's not guaranteed changing the gasket would fix it anyway

Obvious your dealer is not too familiar with your car (or worse, just doesn't give a hoot!). I wouldn't let them work on it with an attitude like that. They may do more harm than good. Take it to another dealer.

My "little" dealer in a small town, jumped right on mine. Didn't buy the car from them (bought used), and it was less than a thousand miles from being out of powertrain warranty! Great service! You shouldn't have to beg the dealer to do their job.

Find a new dealer immediately.

The proper way to determine where the leak is coming from is to drop dye into the crankcase. If it is the pan, a gasket change, along with an actual pan change will certainly stop the leak.

This- I bet that dealer doesn't have anyone qualified to do the repairs.

The first leak was the oil cooler itself which happened at about 5k miles. From there, the oil cooler gaskets went south, which happened at 6k. After that, the oil pan gasket started leaking at around 9k. The solution per the TSB was to replace the oil pan itself and the gasket. Apparently early oil pans had some sort of problem according to the service manager. They had to drop the entire front rack to make this repair.

The only thing that I was spared on was the rear main seal leak due to porous casting flaws in the block. Early cars have this problem but maybe mine was made late enough to avoid that mess. Maybe it will start later. Who knows.

I had a ton of other issues, all before 24k miles. Things like the radiator exploding, power steering knuckle leaking, brake reservoir and cap leaking...on and on.

I never thought that I would own a car of worse quality than my (bought brand new) 1988 IROC but 26 years later, the new title of worst piece of junk I have ever owned goes to the Gen5 Camaro.
