Will the ZL1 font end slow you down with out the hood? (create lift)
The front end is designed in conjunction with the hood to create downforce instead of the lift created by the front end of the V6 or SS.
If you have the front end directing the air up and then getting trapped under a non Zl-1 hood won't it create more lift? Im no physicist but by looking at the wind tunnel videos, if you add the front end to your SS or V6 that air will need somewhere to escape.. |

I don't know how much lift it will generate, but I'd have to imagine it would generate some. Every aspect of the ZL1 was designed to work with each other, and the hood extractors (like you said) funnel that air coming from the front grille out from under the hood. Without those extractors, the air has a much smaller area to escape from and will generate some lift. How much lift it actually generates? your guess is as good as mine

The SS or LS/LT isn't going to hit speeds that it matters, unless highly modified. And if it gets modified that much, I doubt a ZL1 front will be the only body mod.
99.999999% of the people doing a mod like that is for looks only. Plus they probably aren't putting on a belly pan, so plenty of open areas for underhood air to go. |

I believe the downforce on ZL1 is something like 60 pounds @ 150 MPH, or something along those lines. How much the hood adds has not been announced to my knowledge. Because it's not the only element that contributes to the overall downforce, I'm sure it's relatively significant. That splitter air's gotta' go somewhere besides out the wheelwells and brake ducts.
I'd be just as interested in seeing how much the total downforce affects top speed

If I ever did the ZL1 body conversion I would at least get both the ZL1 front fascia and the hood. I did get the ZL1 grill. Hopefully my Camaro SS works correctly after it's installed.

Without the belly pan the front will operate completely differently.

If you track your car, subtle things such as the hood extractor design, balance between front and rear aero effects, and such make a notable difference, but if you drive on the street, you won't notice a thing.

And if you are, it's probably nothing you'd be able to notice unless your traveling at very high speeds. |

Without the full front-end aero packge, the front fascia alone will be detrimental to stability/lift on an otherwise stock SS.
That said...people not planning to race 140+ mph probably don't need to worry much. |

Should be fine like everyone else stated. Unless your going to go really fast. And at that point your stock hood will fly off and the car will spontaneously combust

I think all the wind tunnel testing was done with the hood scoop, so I would say ya it would effect it, only noticable at high speeds
