Why is the ls3 Dipstick twisted?

I searched and can't find anything! Does anyone know why it is twisted?

Pretty sure both the L99 and the LS3 have twisted dip sticks. Don't know why though.

It's to make it more rigid and easier to re-insert.

This. Makes it stronger and much harder to kink it.

Makes sense, though I find it a little tougher to insert than my vehicles with straight dipsticks. however, It looks like the ls3 Dipstick tube is very curved compared to other engines, so that's probably why!

Thanks

What concerns me is the fact its 2 pieces joined by the pin (2 pieces other than the circular pull). Makes me wonder how I'd get out the lower piece if the joint ever separates. Did the LS3 always have same dipstick?

The twist allows it to flex in more than one direction.(think "Slinky") The flat dipstick would only flex like a "diving board" without the twist in it.

Correct - twisting the long metal gives it more strength and will not allow the dipstick to bend as easily.

I thought it was to keep the crankcase pressure from blowing it out. I could be wrong.

That much pressure would be a major problem followed by oil going everywhere...
