Replacement brake pad help! No roller skates!

Hi!
Just got new pads for my 2010 camaro SS, and the new pads don't have the roller skates! Is this a problem, or will I be ok? Are they absolutely required?

I remember reading the rollerskates were to help eliminate brake squeal, which it didn't!

Roller skates are harmonic dampeners. Without them, they may or may not squeal. Functionally they will work fine with or without.

I'm curious about those who have gone "roller skate-free"... has your experience been noisier?

Great question! My brakes squeal all the time with the rollerskates!

For me I've had periods of squealing at varying times during the life of the pads. I'm getting close to replacement so I'm wondering what pads I want to go with.

The Hawk pads have no roller skates and are quiet. But for you, I'd deal with a little noise and go with the HP Plus pads.

As long as they are burnished correctly, they'll still be fairly quiet.

Follow THESE STEPS to ensure they stay as quiet as possible.

Best regards,

How badly do the HP Plus pads treat the rotors compared to the OEM pads?

They are a harder on rotors, but that instant bite awesome. They definitely take less pressure and time to get you slowed down. I'll be going with them next go around.
