Is there a 'black box' to record top speed to void warranty?

So my car is coming this next week, and I went into the dealership to work out the financing.

While reviewing the warranty and the finance guy finally folding and having the service manager come to talk with me bc I'm giving him the fifth degree about what will void my warranty, they tell me that:

"There is a computer on this car to measure if you race with it, and IF you race with this car you will void the warranty"

I'm thinking to myself this has to be a load of BS, since I've been reading the tuning posts like nonstop since I ordered this car.

Anyone know if there is ANY truth to this whatsoever?

Thanks

He's trying to scare you.

IF you get into an accident, most new cars have a feature that will remember the last 30 seconds or so (last time I read about it, this was the quoted time...it may have changed) of driving history...speed, acceleration, throttle position, rpms, G's, etc, etc. For court and evidence reasons. But it can't tell whether you're racing or not, and 30 seconds after you leave the track, it'll forget anyways, .

Just don't get into an accident while racing. That's a no-no.

There is a data recorder that keeps track of things. Redline it for 20 mins till the engine blows and they will know and void your warranty. I don't know if speeding will void it but i would assume it could track wether or not the speed limiter was triggered and possibly how many times which could indicate a pattern of abuse. To my knowledge it mainly records the last few minutes of operation.

it seems guys are really worried about warranties on this site. The engine in the camaro is solid and tested. If something goes out on this thing I would more likely be things like window motors, wiper motors, etc. and they won't be voiding that stuff even if you do race or put on after market parts. I'm a little concerned over the auto transmission, not sure if thats been in service much but I am going to slap a supercharger on my camaro when I get it.

If you keep your camaro stock you have nothing to worry about with the warranty as far as how you drive it.

I can tell you that my first visit to my Pontiac dealer for some routine maintenance on my G8 GT that upon completion the service manager came up to me and said if you werent driving that thing at 130mph your windshield might work properly. I looked at him and smiled and said I dont know anything about that he smiled and said of course not. So I would have to say most definitly.

I can tell you of an accident resulting in fatalities on Long Island (NY) a few years ago,
it was a Corvette drag racing if I remember correctly a Mercedes , driver of Corvette was convicted solely on the "black box" recording of his speed at impact which was 130 MPH, so, I DO believe that there is something like that (I believe it's the ONSTAR) but I dont think speed will void your warranty !

most cars have these, it's part of the airbag deployment system.

most of the recorders only seem to log the last 5 seconds of data so not very useful for doing anything to the warranty but if you kill somebody in a crash and it shows you were going 140 MPH you could be in for some serious trouble as it has been used already to prosecute people.

I don't get why all you guys are so against the idea that something might be in the car that tracks that information. The technology is there and is fairly cheap. My guess is it is very possible that there is some kind of tracking feature in the computer.

So the cars come with a competition mode to be able to launch it, but they will void your warranty for racing?? Does not compute. Probably wouldn't hold water in court due to Comp/Launch mode.

the 09 gt-r has a launch mode that oblitetates the transmission. the warranty guide specifically states that if this mode is used, your warranty is voided
