I had the exhaust work done yesterday and am very happy with the results. Roger really hooked me up. For anyone who has issues with drone, this really works. I met him at a local shop in Lexington Park Maryland just outside Pax River. Rusty, who owns the shop, and his crew were great to work with. They were very professional and know their stuff

I had a set of Kooks resonators installed to bring the overall volume down. I also had a set of helmholtz pipes installed to eliminate a loud drone I picked up that seemed to center in between 1700-1800 rpm. Basically, the rpm band for cruising in 6th gear at 70-80 mph. The volume in the cabin is much lower, but the sound outside is still very aggressive. The entire cabin used to hum whenever the rpm was less than 2000. Now it is entirely gone in 1st through 5th. 6th is completely quiet except when accelerating uphill, but even then it is less than half the previous volume. Roger is confident that we can adjust the length of the tube to target the frequency. But to be honest, I was trying to make it drone. I normally would downshift in that situation. Here are some pictures that Roger provided.

First is the entire exhaust assembly. Then a close up of the Helmholtz pipes and the resonators installed on the car. The helmholtz pipes are forward facing but they sit higher than the bottom of the headers or suspension. They are also braced at the ends. I'm not sure if that is clear in the pictures. The resonators required a little modification to match up with the x-pipe and fit inside the tunnel.

Outside the box? What box? I threw that thing away when the parts came in!

Wow! All of you really did a good job on that set-up. It's the first example I've seen of Helmholtz chambers that far up in the system. So it looks like they'll work anywhere there's room for the right length. Great job!!

Yes, the helmholtz pipes will work regardless of where they are in the system. I was actually surprised when I contacted Pypes exhaust company and they recommended I place the resonators as far forward as possible.

I like that unique chambers setup, however, it looks like it's possible that road debris or something could get "hooked on it" and cause damage to the rest of the exhaust system.

I once witnessed someone with an old pickup truck who had a rear pipe assembly hanging down and disconnnected (rusted out) in the front, and he hit a pothole with the hanging rear section, and it ripped off his right rear side of the axle, damaged the tire, as the rest of the exhaust bent away from the impact.

Hope this doesn't happen to you! Wonder if even a 'plate' near the tips of those chambers may deter something like this from happening.

That's the very reason I NEVER mount u-bolts or clamps with threads pointing in any direction but UP. Catch just one of those discarded plastic bags on one and you've got a melted plastic mess on your exhaust, not to mention the possibility of FIRE!

That's not a good burn-out!

Well it worked GREAT !!

Mine were actually too long (33" on the long side and 28" on the short side) and it targeted the 1400 rpm range and still left the 1800-2000 rpm drone.

So I removed the mufflers again and cut 5" off the get the long side down to 28" and re-installed the mufflers.

Took it for a test drive and it was perfect !!

Like the other guys have said....it toned down the loudness of the exhuast system at idle and all the lower RPM ranges, but from around 3000 RPM and higher it still sounds very aggressive...just exactly how I wanted it to be.

BTW..my Exhaust is OBX longtubes with high flow metallic cats (3" inlet and outlet) and Flowmaster American Thunder Cat back
I also cutoff the 2.5" section on the flowmaster pipes where it connects to the factory cat pipes so that the whole exhaust system is 3" from the header collectors back.
