I have a Monday-After-Thanksgiving build date (11/28/11).
If anyone's going to have problems, it is I.

Therefore, no rain allowed and top stays up ...but it's still loads of miles & smiles.

For what it's worth,......

I haven't had any huge problems with my top so far though in all honesty I don't use it as much as most, I asked Scott & Al about the top issues at Cfest in Indy and was told I should wait till spring of next year. They didn't elaborate on that any further. I have confidence that Chevrolet/GM does want to fix issues customers have been having and will engineer a good and correct solution. I certainly don't have any numbers or facts to back me up but I don't believe every top produced has been having problems, certainly enough to have concerns, but not enough to sell my convertible or to keep me from purchasing one.

I ordered mine early in July, would have to check on the exact build date but probably August of 11

I would go for it. I ordered my car in early July 2011 knowing about top issues. My car was built August 24th 2011 and has had very minor issues with the top. I have very faint rubbing not enough to worry about. I have seen many other cars on the road with worse tops. If you like the 45th as much as I did I would not hesitate. I love everything about this car. I get more compliments and LOOKS than my 2010 SS. Good luck what ever your choice.

I have an April 26,2011 produced vert.I have had the typical problems.5th bow replaced and Water management bag replaced. The repairs must be done by someone with convertible top experience. It has been about 3-4 months or so since the water management bag replacement and 5-6 months since the 5th bow replacement. The roof seems to be okay and I lower the roof every chance I get. There has been zero other issues with the car.I currently have about 6200 miles on it.I absolutely love my vert!!!
I think GM is working on solving the issues as indicative by the # of top revisions. If you are concerned I think it is best to order a 2013 MY and choose the colour/options that you will enjoy. The 2013's have touchscreen nav available, which is a first ever for the camaro and as of 2012 back up camera, so there maybe features that you would enjoy that are available on the 2013's.I say go for a 2013.

I really want something unique and the 45th is just that but I do not want to buy trouble here.
I base the decision for purchasing used cars on (1) how many miles are on the car (i.e. how many miles left on the warranty). I like to have cushion in case I run into any problems. (2) buy the carfax - I know not everything is on the carfax but most thing are on it, and there really aren't many other options (3) the price compared to new.

I bought my vert used with ~9k miles at 7 months old. I knew about the top issues but bought it anyway. At ~16k miles the top was replaced under warranty. Seems GM was giving quite a bit of resistance before stepping up in the beginning...don't hear too much of that any more.

The vert is an amazing car to drive and to own! I have the lid dropped all the time! Good luck!

I tend to agree. It looks like GM is giving less resistance lately.I even had a phone call from GM Canada corporate(not the customer service)but much higher up the food chain.in the beginning, when I was having my roof troubles,GM Canada was still in denial that some tops were having issues. With my most recent call from corporate, they admitted to me verbally that some earlier builds have reported problems and GM Canada corporate said they will try to make it right by doing what they can for me even outside of the warranty period.I was pushing them for an extended warranty on the top to no avail at this point.GM Canada has not issued any extended top warranties to this point. But at least GM is admitting to problems and trying to resolve them.

The key to a good repair is the technicians working on your top must have convertible top experience. These tops are complicated, and its nothing like changing the brakes.

My dealer Duea motors in Albia has a 45th SS/RS conv. don't know the build date. They've had it for a long time.

My 45th has rub marks and wind noise but no water issues. My intent is to have the top replaced in about a year when I am certain they have the top issue fixed. I've discussed this with my dealer and they are on board.

It all depends on how fussy you are. I've had my 2011 top replaced with the latest redesign released on 6/27/2012 (with the new tension cables) and the new water bag. So far so good but I just noticed a bad spot that C5 user EM9IRE found. Here are my threads showing old and new bag and top along with the new issue that just popped up. I don't have problems now but I suspect the saga is not over.

If you are real fussy then I would stay away from the older ones and order a new one. If you don't mind minor rub marks that are inherent to rag tops and don't mind keeping your eye on them within the warranty period to make sure they are just rub marks and not future holes then get the car.

With regard to leaks, if the car was built sometime after Feb 2012 you stand a better chance of not getting a leaker. Also, I would have the dealer spray water on the top with a garden hose for a good 10-15 minutes and then inspect the rear floor pans about 30 minutes later to make sure the carpet is dry.

Buy it already! Chances are you will be ok but if not it can be fixed. I know of which I speak believe me. Go for and worry about it if it breaks just be prepared to do your research and you have already know where you can find the answers. I went thru some bad crap with mine but I kept a positive attitude( most of the time) and I love the crap out of my car so become a brother or sister and treat yourself to a whole lot of smiles!
