Need Guidance (ZL1, SS, 1LE, ?)

Long story short gang, I am a corvette guy and I've gone the past few years without something quick due to having a son. Now that he's my sidekick I was thinking of something coupe that I could get a carseat in.

I initially had my sights on a Hellcat Challenger because I have friends with them, but the 5th gen Camaro kept edging that out in terms of looks. To make it clear, I never owned a HC and I'm not used to that power. Also, my vettes were all just regular Z51/GS/etc. vettes (not even Z06), so quick and fun but not monsters. I've had some bigger power but nothing over the 650 mark.

I love the look of the 5th gen ZL1. A friend of mine had a Z28 and loves it so I went to a local dealer that has a black 2013 and I LOVED it (minus the color). BUT, I was also told to look into the SS 1LE cars from 14/15 and 6th gen if I wanted some track goodies and I could "live" without the extra power. Plus, I drive the crap out of all my vehicles, so I anything I get with low miles won't stay that way.

Requirements:
1. Manual
2. 40K max
3. Mileage doesn't bother me with records
4. No base interiors

So what do you think would be my best bet?
1. 5th gen ZL1
2. 5th gen SS 1LE (I like the 14/15)
3. 6th gen SS
4. 6th gen SS 1LE
5. ???

I'm leaning towards either spending sub 30K and finding a 14/15 1LE or holding out for a manual ZL1. I hear the 6th gen SS rivals the 5th ZL1 out of the box though...

Im biased to 1LEs just because of the difference in handling over the standard SS. If it was me I would go for this 1LE. Forum members car, clean, low miles and has literally everything i want to do with my 1LE. It isn't a 14 or 15 but whatever.

Check the for sale section. There's some nice cars for sale there

There are terrific cars in your price range on this for sale section. The Katech car is phenomenal.

You can get factory ZL1s or built SS or 1Le under budget all day.

Congrats on your sidekick and hope to see you here more often!

Thanks for the posts gang. I saw that 2013 and it's gorgeous.

I found this and it seems to have what I'm looking for an is also Chevy CPO.

Thoughts on that? Price seems high and I haven't made an offer, seeing what shipping is.

A big problem currently is not being able to fly and see/get anything so anything beyond a weekend drive with a car trailer might be out of the question unless I can rely on another method of reassurance like a car being CPO.

I like it BUT the 13 in the for sale section has about the same mileage and what would sell me is that is has the Z/28 suspension, 6 pot brakes, some stuff that the 1LE needs like the upgraded slave.

Don't overlook a brand new LT1. Plenty of HP, not a lot of bells and whistles AND a factory warranty.

If you can swing a Z/28 below 40K I would jump all over it. Even with you putting miles on it, it would still retain the most value of the bunch.

If you plan to modify/build the car, I would suggest the ZL1.

They are a great starting platform and with just a few mods you can easily get them to 600+ whp.

Yes, the 6th gen SS is almost as fast as the stock 5th gen ZL1 but not quite.

While the 6th gen interior is more updated than the 5th gen, it is quite a bit smaller. I prefer the 5th gen interior as far as room goes and I am not a big guy, 5' 10" 190lbs. I just feel cramped in the 6th gens. Also, the back seat is smaller in the 6th gens so as your son gets older he'll have less room if he is in the back.

My girlfriend has a 2019 SS 1LE and I have a 2013 ZL1. While I do think her car is awesome, I tend to like mine just a little more. There's just something extra special about the ZL1. Of course, I could just be biased though lol

You really can't go wrong with either!

Vote for the 1LE here, but I am biased as well. I have a '14 2SS/RS 1LE, so no basic interior (leather, HUD, etc). Before I got the 1LE, I did take a look at a ZL1 that I probably would have ended up getting if it weren't for the fact that the dealer could not figure out why the car had a collision reported on it's carfax. In hindsight though, I'm glad I did not buy the ZL1, and saved quite a bit of $$$ that I can put towards FI/other mods. Besides, the 1LE is plenty fun to rip around in as it sits right now.
