Need Help on V6 LFX Engine

Hello forum,

I have a 2014 v6 camaro that's been overheating. I've changed the thermostat, the radiator fan, the coolant temperature sensor, water pump, and have flushed the radiator. Car has been 221° with no fan. Oil temp sensor has not shown temp with fan running fully. Shut the car off and cranked it back up. Temp reads again, but no fan. Any advice as to what the issue could be?

This thread mentions the relays you might want to check: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=500753

221 degrees is not overheating unless the cap has failed and it's not building pressure. The V8 fans don't cut on until over 220, upper 220's if I remember correctly.

I've checked all relays and I've checked power to fans. All are functioning properly. AC does not work and fans won't kick on at all. Car has always stayed at around 180°. Even at idle. It goes to 192 while driving and steadily rises at idle. Could it be a failed condenser or compressor for the AC? Could it be computer related?

What thermostat did you put in it?

It was a duralast 180° thermostat

Not sure what might be going on then. I would expect open highway driving to be around the thermostat setting this time of year. Unless you got a bad thermostat and it's actually a 190-195. Fans shouldn't be an issue since they shouldn't be needed while driving highway speed. 192 and rising while idling doesn't really sound like a problem.

I would start with an infrared temp gun and try to confirm the actual temps, if you can get so you can take a reading around the thermostat housing. Have you checked the radiator exterior for blockage? Maybe an airpocket in the cooling system?

Other than the temperature reading, the computer doesn't really have any control over the engine coolant temp until it's time to cut the fan on, unless the V6 is a lot more advanced than I realize.

A leaking head gasket can cause weird temperature readings.

Don't know about the LFX, But the LLT's Radiator caps don't last long
Check your Radiator Cap

Since the 2LS doesn't have a gauge how did you determine it was running at 221 degrees?

I second this motion.

I have heard about that issue and its a cheap solution/fix and worth a look.
