Replace rear bowtie with lettering

Hello, I have a question that I haven’t found an answer to by searching the forum. I want to remove the rear bow tie from the trunk lid, however since my car is a 2010 I will be left with the two holes behind it. My question is has anyone successfully been able to cover those holes with lettering similar in style as the fender emblems? These ones are from Emblem Pros. I’m wondering if I could adjust the spacing to cover the holes while still being centred on the trunk lid. Thanks for any advice

I covered mine with matching colored monocote tape, prior to putting on the Sparks emblem. Little different process then what you’re proposing but, could be doable.

Get some 3M flat black air release vinyl wrap piece because I like the old school big block blackout look in the back. Cut it to size and wrap that rascal. I used a flat black/red painted bowtie so I just reused the existing holes (I trimmed out some tape so the emblem would stick to the paint underneath), but you may be able to get away with covering up the holes as 0stones0 pointed out, and with the addition of the CAMARO on the back, nobody would likely notice.

Here's what I did about 11 years ago. I used the air release vinyl because you could put it on dry and not have to use the wet method. Air bubbles just comes right through the vinyl through microscopic holes. Plus, you can easily remove it in the first 3 or 4 years after application, according to 3M.

Just thought of something...

Depending if yours is a LATE 2010, you may not have holes. Do you know your build date?

It was a long time ago, now, so I could be wrong on that. I recall someone having a January 2010 build and HAD the holes, and someone with a May 2010 build WITHOUT holes. So sometime between January and May, they went to the hole-less decklid.

Come to think of it, I had to use a 2011 bowtie WITHOUT alignment pins on that 2012 ZL1 trunklid, so I didn't have holes to worry about anyway. I had to manually align the bowtie when I put it on.

Here's an old discussion on it.

Thanks for the replies. The car is black so I would prefer not to use vinyl. I can’t remember the build date off the top of my head and it’s in storage but I believe it’s an early build as it has the stick on weights on the calipers vs. The roller skate brake pads. I think I’ll order the emblem and see what happens

Worth a shot. Even if it has the holes, the holes MAY be in just the right places to be covered by the letters. Fingers crossed.

That’s what I’m hoping. From the pics I’ve seen the hole on the right side is oval and somewhat large. If the hole can’t be totally covered with the “A” letter, I could fill it in with some black epoxy. Won’t notice it from 10 feet away, lol.

Not if that's the theme you want to go with. Although if your car is black it would be kinda hard to see. Maybe outline the edges in red to set it off? Just an idea.

Best pic I have of it. I’m changing all the chrome emblems and tail light bezels to black. Adding rally stripes to match the ground effects. Eventually will get the 2021 ish spoked ZL1 wheels. Don’t want to go crazy with cosmetics as most of the budget is getting blown on a LSA supercharger install

I would suggest satin or flat black, depending on your ground effects sheen. Can't tell. But if you match the blacked out trim to the ground effects gloss level, it will blend nicely, IMO. But you do you. Your car, your money. It'll look sharp all blacked out.
