MAybe that is why Ford but such small brakes in the back taking drag racing into consideration. But, whatever the case may be I wish i had a better brake package or at least better rears. Not sure how the brembos on the front of the gt500 compare to that of the SS or CTS-v.

When you are tracking a 4000 lb car for just a little bit and I mean just a little, you would be suprised how fast your brakes will fade.
It almost makes a little more sense that they did it that way, so you can run 15s, but then that suggests they really only designed it to run down the strip. Like I think many people have been saying: ZL1 is an all-arounder, not a specialist, and personally - that's what I'm interested in. I don't want a car that does nothing great, however. I'm sure all my expectations will be met, and then some.

Really??? I thought that the lsa bottom end was stronger than the ls3 bottom end. Surely the lsa will hold 700 rwhp. If not thats rediculous just more corner cutting bullshit. How much more does it cost gm to use forged over hyper?

Back to brakes if 18 wheels will clear ill be happy. Im sure ill enjoy the brake upgrades on the zl1. I was thinking the rotors were way bigger on the zl1 over the ss. But from what ive found there both about the same size.

SOrry - that's what I'm saying; LSA IS stronger than LS3 It's more than saving money with going hyper' over forged. Emissions and noise considerations also go into consideration, though, for this application, I think it has more to do with $$$.

JMHO.

Yup. I would appear the rear brakes are about the same and we already know about the calipers, and diameter and thickness (I think I saw thickness somewhere) of ZL1. It would seem the SS rear brakes were quite up to the task at hand

which suggest that maybe gm is conscious of the price and is trying to keep it affordable, but i still expect to see it as a high 40 low 50's car.

Of course. "Price Competitive" means just that...but they know they make a superior product and can get away with charging a premium for it...

Anyways, changing vital parts in an engine is a hugely expensive process. Those $100 pistons everyone likes to talk about cost significantly more from a manufacturer's standpoint in that they need to re-test and validate the whole engine again. At which point you're talking the millions and millions of dollars, and a lot of time.

Pretending we're qualified engineers: the other option would have been to pop the LS7 in there...but now we're down significantly on power compared to the competition, and there's still those pesky hypereutectic pistons that caused us to look this direction anyways. So...solution would be the LS9...which leaves us with an almost $10,000 premium over the LSA...ouch.

But I definitely got off topic, and I apologize.

18s on ZL1......> GO!
