My old High School builds a robot!!

(Well...part of one)

So I got this email today from a great friend and former teacher I keep in touch with, and he tells me that the students built a robotic arm this year!!

Keep in mind, that beyond the guidance Mr. Kennedy (the teacher) offered, this was the result of a lot of hard work by some High School Students!

Here's a link;

Pretty cool! I never did make anything in high school. Completely built an Eagle 2 RC plane out of balsa wood, and OS engine, and my RC w/ servos. That was pretty cool for only being a middle schooler. Hey, I built something that flew!

Though I would've loved too! couple years to late, I guess. :(

I'll see if I can get some more info like PSI, etc. I'm going back there to visit and see this thing in action. Completely by scratch, this wasn't a kit or anything. That's why I think it's so

Good work by those kids, it ain't perfect but it works. That is the most important thing about it. I could go and nitpick, but its really impressive. Some of my classmates who have just graduated from mechatronics (mechanical+electronics, essentially robotics) engineering could not build that. Nice simple design for the movements. Reliable control system. Belt tensioner. It would be interesting to see how robust it is and how much weight it can lift.

I can't tell you how many servos myself and my partner in electronics class broke trying to build an automated greenhouse that our teacher schemed up for us to build. We effed it all up but we finally got it to work righ and I made an A in that class. But the robotic arm is pretty sweet!! Those guys and girls will grow up to work at honda or something on that robot they have.
